2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

Most successful loan spell I can remember for one of our youngsters in absolutely ages.
Branthwaite would probably be the one I'd point to as most successful in recent years, but the fact he went and played CL footy with PSV probably says a lot about the standard he was at

The Armstrong loan is turning out to be an excellent decision by all involved as things stand - what happens next season will be the really interesting one. Would it be better to go and have a full season in the Championship or possibly with a promoted club, or would he be better served here? Not sure. He's a bit of a freak in terms of where he is in his development at his age, so there's probably more of a chance of him staying with us and getting minutes than I'd have otherwise thought in this situation.

I wouldn't say that was weird? He took a pro contract here but wasn't breaking through, he took the chance to move abroad and get games for a decent club and now he's moved back to the Championship with a bit more experience and reputation under his belt. Seems pretty normal to me.
And done wonders for his international career. Absolutely the right move for the lad.

I hated the idea of this, i thought it was mad to send him off to Derby, especially with Paul Warne there close to the bullet, or if he didn't doesn't really have the reputation of giving lads like Armstrong a go.

I was right in a way as they ditched Warne, but i wonder what sort of season he would of had if he wasn't ditched.
Eustace came in and has trusted him Not just trusted him, but even if you look at substitutions he never takes him off.

Worked out really, really well. I'm reluctant to send out lads on loan, especially ones who have the opportunity of getting into our team, but Branthwaite & Armstrong's have worked

I imagine a lot will depend on what we have in our own squad this summer. There will be a big turnover of players and quite frankly the likes of Garner & Iroegbunam are hardly ripping it up in the Premier league so we may well see him fighting for a place in our starting 11.

Think so? I see more of a Carrick 'type'.

Easy to watch him and think how he'd suit a slower tier one league like Italy or Spain.

Looks quite a unique type to me as a deep lying playmaker.
For our youth teams he’s payed higher up
The pitch, so im not sure it’s a given he will play his whole career as a sitting midfielder. Personally i think he will be a box to box number 8

I think @SuperKev91 said the same.

If he's able to play attacking central midfield in the championship as well as this deep midfield playmaker role...it would be amazing if he could mould those two skillsets together into an all round central midfielder.

Yeah I’d see him more as a jack of all trades really.

That’s why I made the Ballack comparison. He’d obviously have done unbelievably well to be mentioned in the same breath but I just mean stylistically. Comfortable at both ends of the pitch.

From what we’ve seen of Armstrong at Everton, combined with his rise at Derby, I’d love to see him playing with us next season. In some ways he’s on par with Garner, perhaps even better in terms of attacking the goal. I feel he’s already ahead of Tim. I had high hopes for Tim but his performances are a bit mediocre in my opinion.

I'd go one further and say that he's probably made a good career decision. Trusted he could go abroad and get first team football, rather than sign a deal with s and hope he got enough minutes via a loan eventually

Whys that weird?
Was a great decision by him, Dyche or moyes would barely have used him and he'd be out on loan anyway.

I think I wasn't clear, I meant why would he leave for first team football, get it, then leave for West Brom? Homesick perhaps? I'd have thought staying at Liege would have been better for him since he seemed to be getting game time

…..noticed he’s got a good set of shoulders on him, looks like the coat hanger is still in his shirt.
