PS3 vs. XBOX 360

Being a video game developer (I develop for both, Playstation 3 and XBOX 360) people ask me almost daily which platform I think is better. These are my personal feelings, in no way does this reflect my employer.

Short answer: XBOX 360.

Long answer: Price, performance, visual quality, game selection and online support. I think the XBOX 360 wins in every category.

Price: This is obvious; the XBOX 360 core is only $299. The PS3 is around $499 for the 20GB version. It comes with a hard drive, but you don’t need a hard drive to enjoy a lot of great games on the 360 so I think it’s fair to compare both core systems.

Performance: On paper, the PS3 is more powerful. In reality, it’s quite inferior to the 360. Without getting into too many details, the three general-purpose CPU’s the xbox360 has are currently FAR easier to take advantage of than the SPU’s on the PS3. I suspect a few years down the road some high budget, first party PS3 exclusive titles will come out that really take advantage of the SPU’s and do things the XBOX 360 can’t, but I don’t think the console is worth buying based on this speculation (for some it will be though, we'll have to wait and see how these games turn out).

Quick question:

Do you own a PS3 or XBox?

Irrelevant, you check any site on the internet they'd either say you can't compare them or 360 on value for money.

I own a 360, down to the fact it came out almost a year before the PS3 and in the year longer it took the PS3 too come out they did what exactly? released a console that looks like you could fry burgers off it?

No thanks I'd rather have my cheaper 360 sooner as there isn't much between the consoles anyway.

I have a PS2.

It can do Pro Evo and Gran Turismo, thus covering my every gaming need. And it didn't set me back much wonga. Lovely jubbly :P

So the simple answer is yes you do, therefore your argument is naturally biased which I detected. Thus the need for you to go off into one to further justify your choice.

There is quite a bit between the consoles like the internal hard drive and built in Blue Ray compatibility. And once they develop the use of the built in graphics hardware then it will blow the Xbox away.

If I could grill my burgers on it even better, its appearance is not what Im buying it for. And if I was looking for a budget next gen gamer than I would purchase the Xbox as you state.

But I want quality and therefore I shall purchase the PS3 for this [Poor language removed] alone.

Chico, I am being totally honest in saying there was nothing I wanted more than a successful PS3. I have owned (from the beginning) a Mega Drive, 32-X, Playstation, PS2, Xbox, PSP and now the Xbox 360.

I was quite a fan of Sony as they took Nintendo on and beat them at thier own game, much like Microsoft is doing now.

When the PS3 was released it was released with 4 titles. FOUR, I mean come on! In the next 2 months or so, this increased to 20 crap titles. All that computing power is for nothing if it can't be utilized. Look at the Sega Saturn, with it's 2 32-bit SH-2 processors, had 3 times the power of the Playstation, but nobody could exploit it, so it failed.

When people finally do figure the PS3 out and start releasing all those great games I had hoped to see, the will be so far behind there won't be any point. the 360 and Wii will be so far ahead the PS3 will become a 2-bit player in the market.

3 weeks after release, there were PS3's on the shelfs of stores selling them, with people returning them! 9 months after the 360 was released, people still queued up when they heard a store was getting one!

Software make a system. Which is why the PS3 is crap. Oh, and the Blu-Ray player won't mean **** as Sony still refuse to release manufacturing rights, so companies will gravitate to HD DVD as they can make their own discs (when will Sony learn, they have done this with Betamax, Mini-Disc, Memory Stick and UMD - all have failed.)

Oh, and chico, you can grill you burgers on it.......no modifications needed

that aint grill you n00b, maybe a gridle mod but not a grill

(grill - heat at the top cascading into the foodstuff below)

I think while you were all arguing about the SECOND best system, you forgot about the Wii. It is more fun, newer and cooler than the 360 and the PS3. Just got FIFA 08 for it. Best.System.Ever. The gameplay is incredible, the additional options and possibilities that the Wiimote gives you is incredible. So you all have fun continuing your argument.(y)

I have an X box 360 connected to a HD projector (avec Sly HD) it is the bollocks. 140" screen, HD. Awesome. If you've never seen HD then you really need to, It is amazing. Everyone who sees it wants one, yet everyone shells out for plasma or LCD tellys for twice the price, the projector costs £700ish which is bugger all in comparison. You just need a dark room.
The 360 also upscales DVD's to HD standard (I think)

Pijit, the HD upscaling.....close, but not quite. A projector is a great value for money if you have the right house/room for it. My LCD can be used night or day, bright or dark.

CT jr, the Wii is fun and innovative, but it could only be a supporting player in my house. And in therms of hardware, it is a Gamecube, over-clocked 1.5 times.

isn't that what video games are supposed to be or am i missing something?

Chico...you linked me to a PS3 fan site to support your arguement? aren't they biased themselves.

Its quite simple really you can fit the consoles into three categories.

Pure Gaming Goodness - Xbox 360
Family Fun + Party console - Wii
Multimedia Console - PS3.

Just looking at the stats for PS3 with the additional ports for Digital Camera's and crap you can tell they've hardly concentrated on it becoming a great gaming console. The year lead that the 360 had on the PS3 is showing at the moment and with previously Sony exclusive games jumping ship and joining both 360 and PS3. (Devil May Cry and the Feature game Virtual Fighter 5.)

so short answer, yes I own a 360 when the original war between Playstation N64 and Sega Dreamcast was waged PS1 won hands down....why's that?

I believe it was because it was cheaper, out sooner and flooded the market with games giving people more choice which is pretty much what the 360 has done.

Youre all bonkers!

Anyone willing to pay more than half a weeks wages on a Video game system deserves to get duped!!!

Ill just play my Ps2 until the 360 or ps3 halves in price, doubles in games, and you guys have hocked all your games in!!!!

Mmwhhahahahaha!!!!
