I am surprise to see you mentioned it. Yes, it's a local favorite food. Nowadays it's rare to find hawkers cooking with charcoal as gas is more convenient. I prefer to eat it with extra chilies.Char Kway Teow cooked over charcoals just around the corner from Pulau Tikus wet market - one of my favourite meals in the whole world.
