Tony Hibbert and Leon Osman have signed new long-term contracts with Everton, keeping them at Goodison until 2012.
Both players have spent their entire careers at Goodison, with Hibbert and Osman coming through the Club's Academy part of the same youth side.
Both have played key roles in Everton's impressive form this season and, between them, have accumulated 329 first team appearances for the Blues - and are both still just 26.
They were also members of the FA Youth Cup winning side of 1998 and are the two longest serving players in David Moyes' senior squad.
Hibbert is delighted with the new contract, saying: "I’m made up that I’m here for another five years and I’m very happy to be here and carry on playing my football here.
It’s good to sign at the same time as Leon. We’ve grown up together and been playing for Everton for many years. It’s good to see that we’re still wanted at the club and it’s a good thing that it’s for five years."
Negotiations with the duo have been ongoing since November but Osman insists there was never any doubt the new deals would be agreed.
He told evertonTV: "We started talking a couple of months back, but I don’t think there was ever any doubt that I was going to commit my long term future to the club. I’ve been here since I left school, and that’s a long time but it’s where I want to play my football."

I still prefer Neville at RB and was hoping we'd bring in more quality for that position. Hibbert is improving, but still not good enough in my opinion. Glad that Osmans signed.

Gosling will be coddled for a while. Hibbo and Ossie are two of my sentimental favorites because they are academy boys. May not possess the greatest skills but are true blues. I like that.

Are you saying he hasnt? Who was that RB who totally nullified 1 of City's best players last week? It wasnt Neville thats for sure

Gotta correct you.

He didn't nullify one of City's best players last week.

He nullified THE best City player last week.

I agree with the point made though that we need to have competition for places and depth at each position.

For those of you who aren't happy with certain players at certain positions, just remember that to have two top players at every position costs big money. Money that Everton doesn't have now nor are they unlikely to have in the future.

So while the Chelsea's of the world basically have two "A" teams to choose from, clubs with lesser resources like Everton will continue to try improve the overall squad but will ALWAYS have players like Hibbert, Osman, Valente, etc...

Players who aren't world beaters but are certainly capable of playing some solid football at their respective positions.

And please, please don't give me the tired old, "Well Everton aren't ambitious if they're going to settle for those types of players" crap. If you want to trot that line of thinking out, let me refer you back to my comment about top players costing large sums of money.

If you'd like to try the, "Well certainly we can improve on (insert players name here) at that position for (insert x amount of pounds here), I'd also tell you that you haven't paid much attention to the transfer market over the past 5 years. Basically, you're not gonna get much of an upgrade over Hibbert for the bargain basement price of 5M. You're not going to get much of an upgrade over Carsley or Osman for the bargain basement price of 4.5M. I haven't even begun to talk about the wages that a new player would command.

Fact is that Moyes has done a spectacular job with molding and shaping the team since he's been the manager and he's done it without a moneybags owners or splashing 20M a year in the transfer market.

If I were to define Moyes' overall history in the transfer market with one word, taking both the good and bad into account, then I'd say he's been very "shrewd."

You cant have a team of world beaters. You need solid players who do a job for the team aswell. these two are good squad players, well hibbo's not the best but he's worth having around till someone better comes in.

Totally agree. I've just watched Hibbo's interview on Everton TV and he so obviously loves Everton. He said he never thinks about being anywhere else. He just wants to be at Everton.
He's no world beater but will shed blue blood if need be.
Okay, being a Blue doesnt give you a place in the team but he, like Valente, who certainly was a very good player, Neville, who is a great ambassador for this club and Leon who still has some good years ahead of him, will give their all for this club.
Once Everton have touched you..........
I would certainly rather have those mentioned above in my squad than a bunch of Diarra's and other mercenaries.

Hibbert has played well the last few games, as has Nuno. They just get on with the job.
We have a solid defence even without Yobo and Baines so let's appreciate some of the positives.

Come on Blues, win it for us, make 2008 a year to never forget.
