How America planned for an attack on BRITAIN

I love downtown Toronto lid, boss city with all the different little communities. Then you've got the island and the beaches. I could settle there like. I'm into the the Maple syrup doughnuts with my Timmys.

Always makes me laugh in Pearson where the Timmy's line up is triple the size of Starbucks.

How's the Liverpool thing working out. We'll need to meet for Coors when I'm in town.

Its working out well, cheaper than the south thats for sure. I'm here for your cheapish university plus other funding for that lifestyle. The blessed life of a person with two passports. Wish you had better weather and more late night food options, the guilt and disgust you feel after waking up from a night of booze then a chicken burger and curry chips is horrible.

And coors? You gotta be kidding me. Tried the local stuff, liverpool organic I think. Pretty sure the barman finished off in it, or at least that what it looked like.....a smooth taste really.

Wacky war planners may have drafted up such a contingency scheme, but they would have done so unaware that the USA is the military arm of the old British Empire and has been owned by the City of London financiers since "independence". America's political elite knew the score though - as they do to this day.

On a semi-related note, I'm currently reading this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Iron-Curtai...8687/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356820681&sr=8-1

It's funny (except kinda not) how triumphalist we often are about winning the war, yet the aftermath of it all was generally cocked right up. Eastern Europe was sentenced to 45 years of misery, with a vast amount of ethnic cleansing, murder, poverty and what not. The India/Pakistan partition was incredibly violent and messy, as was North/South Korea. And of course the creation of Israel is a gift that keeps on giving.

I know that the British empire was kinda on its knees after the war and we didn't have a pot to pee in, but the (mis)handling of things in those years really did sew the seeds for the next 50 years of conflicts.

Got the book to find out a bit about Czech history, and you can understand why they're pissed with us, given that we gave Bohemia to Hitler before the war, then gave the entire country to Stalin after it.

Just had a look at that book Bruce. Do me a favour and give me a heads up when you've finished it on if you think it's a good read. It's a bit pricey for the kindle but it's a gap in my modern world history knowledge so it sounds ideal.

I'm around half way through at the moment and it's very interesting. Most British coverage of that period kinda ends in 1945 or perhaps says a bit about the Marshall Plan. This book goes into a lot of detail about how Stalin took a hold of that region, both during and after the war. It looks at cultural things (ie how he banned youth clubs, dominated radio etc.) as well as the political and economic stuff. Another thing I don't think is covered much in British history of the period is Potsdam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potsdam_Conference).

That basically tried to sort out the borders again after the war and deal with the population changes caused by the war, with prisoners of war and lots of other war related migration to sort out. Whilst in the west most of this was attempted humanely, it doesn't seem like the Russians even bothered, and there was a huge amount of violence and murder as populations were shunted around.

Pretty much spot on, that, but history is what it is, warts and all. I remember an old golfing mate of mine, very mild mannered, usually, but suddenly getting very agro and talking about the British colonising, pillaging, raping, murdering, and genarally disenfranchising the indigenous populations of it's Empire. We were on a lovely golf course on the banks of the mighty River Murray in New South Wales at the time, and I pointed out to him that if they hadn't, we wouldn't be there.
I hate what I see in the world. I particularly hate what's been happening in Syria, lately, but is there anything any of us mere mortals can do to change it? Hope I haven't gone of topic.

Just in reference to the OP, strategic plans for attacking X country is just called being prepared. It would be pretty irresponsible of a nation-state to not have a plan to attack or defend against all countries, not only near it, but economically or militarily strong as well.

Had a convo along similar lines in NZ, when Islanders told me about The British Army burying them up to their necks in the sand and 'practising polo,' they didn't hold it against me like as they were aware that it wouldn't be taught in schools over here. Told me that there are those that will be anti British forever because of it though, the same people generally anti everything though (black power etc).

Unless of course it is a plan to attack the U.S. ? or to have missiles with a capability of reaching the U.S. ?

What's good for the Goose is Good for the Gander mate, however I doubt that the U.S. would deem it acceptable for anyone to have missiles a button press away from the Whitehouse.

Interesting stuff there Mate.(y)

September 19th 1931 was the end of the British Empire. They followed the same fate as the Roman Empire. They couldn't afford standing armies to control principalities so the lie of lower interest rates were devised it worked short term but the piper has to be paid eventually. Education in schools will only show the Governments perspective and nothing more and has since WWII. Everyone that needs to get a true understanding will have to dig a little bit.
