How do you solve a problem like England

What's sad is that if Carragher turned down England Sol Campbell would have leaped over everybody else and landed a starting role because he plays for a "big club"

England need to focus on the next generation of players, this current, 'Golden Generation' has failed, and unless they manage to win this time somehow, then they won't win anything. Come Brazil 2014 the likes of Gerrard, Terry and Lampard are going to be well into their 30's, and the only young(ish) player who will have enough experience will be Mr. Rooney. The likes of Gerrard and Lampard are going to be too old and unfit to cope with the heat and humidity they will face in a Brazilian World Cup, so England needs to start blooding some of the young players. England also needs a new formation, a classic 4-4-2 doesn't work in international football anymore, instead, England could try playing a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3.

Capello, or a new coach, should primarily use the Euro 2012's to prepare a younger generation of players and drop a large part of the current over 30's in the squad. The Germans have done a similar thing previously, and now have a squad with an average age of slightly over 21, with only 3 players over 30 in the squad. They have a young squad, with a hell of a lot of international experience, with the likes of Podolski and Lahm being in their mid-twenties, whilst having 70+ caps. In contrast the average age of the English National Squad is a bit over 28.5 years.

However any English manager who dared do this would receive a lot of flack from the papers, and the like, for dropping the media darlings. The FA may also put pressure on the manager, as they would lose merchandising money, not to mention the general public calling for his head after a few bad results.

Instead of say Gareth Barry and Matthew Upson being called up for the squad, younger starlets should be called up in their place such as Rodwell, (Adam) Johnson and Wilshere, with the likes of Lampard, Terry and Cole being able to help them to settle into the National squad.

Similarly, England also needs to focus on having one goalkeeper who is played consistently, with none of the bollocks they have had this time round. Obviously David James is too old to be this keeper, I think that Joe Hart should be chosen as this goalkeeper, he was by far the best English Goalkeeper in the Premier League last season. Since Joe Hart is likely to be the England Goalkeeper at the next World Cup, he needs to be allowed to gain experience on the international level. He may not be experienced there yet, but he needs the games to gain that experience.

Ideally the 2014 World Cup should have a first team consisting of players all under the age of 30, with only 3/4 30+ players still in the squad, and to look something similar to the team below.

......................Hart.....................
G.Johnson Richards Onuoha Gibbs
............Huddlestone Rodwell..............
Walcott..........Wilshere...........A. Johnson
.....................Rooney......................

Obviously the exact squad would differ depending on who makes it, and who doesn't, with perhaps the likes of Gosling, Baxter, Bidwell and Garbutt breaking into the squad, if they are good enough, to use some examples from our own youth system.

To be blunt, England needs an almost complete overhaul of the team, as the current group of player will, for the most part, be much too old to compete in the next World Cup, and whilst in the short term it may damage the English Ranking, and cost the FA some money, it will be much more beneficial for the National Team in the long term to do something along these lines, in my opinion.

Is it any coincidence our world cup win occurred when the players won it for the love of the game?
Now the international side is a pimp-mobile used to flog whatever to the British masses. Could this corporate invasion, the same corporate invasion that blights stadia with seats full of prawn sandwich eaters some weekends and empty seats the next be the cause?
Has "Team England" traded its chances of winning anything by selling its heart and soul to which ever peddler of common muck it so readily has now and for over a decade?

my American point of view: Lampard and Gerrard can NOT be on the field at the same time...all the guy does is drift around the field looking to get into the box (and in my opinion) gets in Gerrard's way... Barry will give you creativity but is one of the best position players (meaning he knows he has to lock down the midfield)...always liked Barry's committment to plugging up holes in the mid.

This is my opinion only, but I would suggest England drop the guys who think they are bigger than the team..

Gerrard
Terry
Lampard
Cole

I think those names mentioned above are Englands weak links..
Replace them with some exciting up and comers, hungry for success, and you have a winning formula

Rooney screams Captain.. Leads by example! I think he is unhappy with the players I've mentioned and it's effecting his game..

Whether i'm making any sense or not, one thing we can agree on, is the names mentioned are not hungry for anything except money...

Now that would be a team I could root for (except for Richards I hate him). I wouldhave Jags and Dawson as CBs they are still young enough and would provide some veteran leadership (could you see either of these 2 saying to say a young talented player(s) like Walcott was 4 years ago to F-off like Gerrard did?) and would mentor the young players so that they don't end up like the Spoiled Generation.
