How early do you get to the airport?

Depends on the airport. Manchester Airport can get very busy in the security lines even if you've already checked in, so arrive about 75 minutes before flight. If checking in luggage, add another 20-odd minutes, knowing that those 75 minutes are more than likely to be more than sufficient and that's only on a bad day (and in the knowledge that staff will generally call your flight number if it's getting tight and you're still in the queue. That or you can just embarrassingly cut the queue and hop into the premium queue and apologise to people around you).

Abroad, Manilla Airport definitely at least two hours domestic and longer international as it's a nightmare of an airport. Can take an hour to get between terminals in a taxi.

Airports like Changi (Singapore) where is as efficient as it gets, no more than about 75 minutes even if needing to drop off luggage. Phuket airport is always a breeze for me, so it's about 45 minutes with no luggage on a domestic flight and just a little over an hour if flying international having already checked in online.

Had some negative experiences at airports in the US with crazily long queues and inefficient service.

One important thing to remember is that you're allowed to arrive at your gate up to 20 minutes before scheduled take off, and if they close it early or refuse you to board you're (in the EU) entitled to some quite juicy compensation. Once I missed a bus connection (due to a late-arriving train) to the airport in Munich on Christmas Eve in about 2015 and arrived at check in (albeit not the boarding gate) an hour and 2 minutes before departure time. The rule of the airline was the check-in counter closes an hour before. They refused to check me in and I managed to have them switch my ticket to an early morning flight the next day. A bit of an inconvenience, but nothing major, just went back to my flat and slept 8 hours before heading back to airport and flying. After my compensation claim they paid me something like £400 quid for denying me check in.

In general though, never ever anything like 2-2.5 hours apart from at the one airport listed above.

Haha fair enough, wish I could be that relaxed when flying. Flying to Singapore from Phuket in four hours and 15 minutes and I’m already hurrying Mrs Thumpety-Thump up.
Haha…. I’ve travelled from Manchester to Riyadh, via Istanbul… the Istanbul flight I had literally 40 mins from getting off the first plane to legging it across the airport, it’s massive… just getting on.. but that wasn’t by choice. I arrived at Manchester yesterday afternoon with about an hour and a half to go

GVA is small and easy to plan timing wise so it depends on destination.

Continental flights within Europe (carry on) I arrive 75 minutes in advance of departure. Security lasts no longer than 20 minutes, even peak hours

Long haul flights with bags to check I allot an additional half hour- except if I fly Swiss which allows you to check bags in 24 hrs prior to departure. If I fly business with work 75 minutes works fine regardless of destination

Very straightforward and reliable

Shannon is so quiet, an hour before is usually plenty unless your flight time coincides with a USA flight.
Last time I used BHX was painful ,traffic on the M42 backed up,long queues and building work at the airport made for quite a stressful day.

I promise you'll find out that you arrived about 2 hours too early.
Drive from the Old Town to the airport should have taken one hour but took closer to 75 mins. Minimal queue to check in, minimal queue for security and I’m now sitting eating an overpriced but tasty Pad Thai with an overpriced bottle of Chang 90 mins before take off, about three minutes from the gate. Ridiculously early but it keeps my blood pressure down!
