How many pts needed for Safety

I bet both Leeds and Burnley win at least 2 each so they’re on at least 40. It’s going to take 41 points to be safe…

The thing is most of the other teams are already on holiday. Chelsea are a good team but if they were playing for the title like Liverpool they probably would have done more. So I expect Burnley/Leeds will end up winning more than early on in the season.

I think everyone of Chelsea 25 man squad would pritty much start for us. Ppl acting like Chelsea will play a bunch of u12. Leeds are one team that you simply don’t now what side will turn up, they could quite easily beat Chelsea but they could just as easily concede 5 goals

I do, people are saying they have a hard run, they play Chelsea at Elland road midweak a few days before the cup final, no chance Chelsea play a top side, then Brighton at home

But you could argue that a changed Chelsea team, motivated by points to prove and cup final places on the line might put up as much fight as their team yesterday, possibly more. Hopefully Rom gets a game as he will be up for helping us out.

Maybe, main thing is we take care of our own business, we have to get 38 minimum I reckon

With 40 points no longer an absolute lock for safety it does at least mean Villa should be up for beating Burnley to clinch safety. They will get what they need somewhere down the line but with Liverpool and City still to play a win would take any stress out of things

Yeah for sure. Tbh I think we need to operate on the basis Burnley and Leeds both pick up 2 wins and 40 is required. If either of them do worse than that it’s a bonus.

If we could win 3 of the next 4, that would take us to 41 points. I think that will be enough to overtake at least one of Burnley and Leeds, perhaps even Southampton, ahead of the Arsenal game.
I think in the interests of our collective mental health, if we could go into the last game with a 3 point gap over Leeds with the big goal difference in our favour, life would be a hell of a lot easier!

The other weird aspect to this is the teams on 40 points could still conceivably either be relegated or finish top half. Villa in particular will feel beating Burnley home and away is an opportunity to tidy up a pretty disappointing end to the season.

Yeah I want to be going into that last game safe. We have a chance to jump Leeds in the coming week against Leicester and Watford and we then need to create a gap when we play Brentford and Palace.

Best thing that could happen on Saturday is Burnley Villa draw and the match is vile, Villa get loads injured and then they are up for the return fixture. But it's Slippy so he will probably throw the kids in.

Not sure they can afford to do that. If they lose both games v Burnley they could be dragged into the mix, they also have Liverpool and City to play. If we could win 3 and they do slip up we (and Burnley) could overtake them.

a couple of weeks ago wee were all saying 36 points would do but I think at least 40 is going to be needed. often there are 3 very crap teams at the bottom but this year it seems its two very crap and then we are looking for one from the 3 crap teams above them.
