That gives you a month to sound out replacements...If required.

Then that gives the new guy...If appointed, some time to look at the team in time for a serious run at the cup

Definitely till the end of this season.

If we finish 7th but it's the same type of season as last year, I would then think of a replacement.
If we finish 7th but have showed progress or any position more than 7th place I would keep him.
7th would be acceptable if, for instance, we get closer to 6th and maybe are close to challenging them (e.g. within 5 points), or if we get more wins against top 6 teams, and concede fewer goals and score more, win more, lose less.
We shouldn't sack him mid-season - we can't afford that kind of mentality
We should be patient till the end of the year and judge the season as a whole.
We are in a big turnaround here, arguably the first solid foundations are being laid since Moyes, because 2013-16 was a good and bad period but it was patchwork
Now we're in a solid new era with Brands, money and serious ambition. It's stupid to chop and change now.
Personally, Silva must be thinking 5 years here, to land his big job at a bigger club, and that's good stability for us

That's where I'm at. Think we are a couple really good players away still. Hard to look at that central midfield or that striker cadre and think top 6, even though there are some good pieces in there. Missing a CB. Sidibe isn't a permanent solution I don't think, either. No backup left back once Baines hangs 'em up unless we are relying on Delph.
