This. Quite bad that revenue increased £70m and profits decreased £122m year over year. And Woodward expects a profit near £90m this year, apparently ignoring the massive outlay in the transfer market.

Something is wrong here when your profit climbs £31m from (£8.8m) to to £23.8m because of £155m in benefits from US tax law. There's nothing wrong with US tax law, per se; the problem is with the underlying asset.

But isn't that largely because your club has enough money that it doesn't really matter if they mess up a few transfers or sign players on higher wages than they warrant.

Assuming Fellaini gets sold in the next twelve months at a big loss to compensate another club taking on his large salary, you will be able to shrug, moan a bit and move on. For most other clubs such a bad investment would have far greater ramifications.
