We didn't have transvestites when we were kids. we had to make our own entertainment.
apparently it was the accepted thing to go around to the one family in the street who did have a transvestite and watch that, such community spirit we had back then

As a kid we had to go to a neighbour's house or a public phone if we needed to ring someone. I'm not sure I'd miss it

My older sister told me once she would wait by the phone box on our corner for a call.

Not related but I just remembered back in the early 90's when my mates mum and dad had one of those coin slot tv's where you had to throw a few quid in it to view. It would last a few days and then you would throw more in it...

We did occaisionally go round to the neighbours' house to use their transvestite. Only in emergencies like. And we'd always leave tuppence in the little money box on the table next to it

it's fascinating to think there's one in almost every room now, and some of them are huge!!
