im not arguing, im merely expressing my thoughts on the subject.

you summed my point up well anyhow, money makes it easier, but IMO it isnt absolutley essential.

west ham - defoe, carrick, lampard, ferdinand, j cole
forrest - jenas, dawson
spurs - king, lennon
leeds - robinson, smith, milner
villa - agbonlahor, barry, steven davis

you mentioned man ure going out and splashing cash on replacements, but the replacements have to come from somewhere, im not suggesting any side can just grow a starting eleven that will rise through the youth system together and eventually all step up to premierleague level thus saving the club millions, but hows about we make a better attempt to spot quality youth coming through at lower league clubs (west ham snagged reo coker from MK dons - he had been playing non league a year before he joined them)

the talent is definatley out there, we have to beat other clubs to it - currently there is a big deal being made out of giles barnes, but its too late for us now because he can name his own price 'now'. 2 years ago was the time to spot him and sign him for little to nothing. who will be the new face this time next year? and the year after?

You got a point there. I hope we can find or produce half a dozen prodigies for the next few seasons. Until then, we still need to pay the price if we trying to get quality like fernandes or johnson. And if some sugar daddy comes along and give us some incentive I will not be upset about it.
