What's the point of them?
so that if a policeman doesnt like the look of you that he can demand to see you 'state id' - if produced he runs it through the computer (are they still pushing for dna database as well) name, age, place of residence. it can lead to a host of problems...''what are you doing here? you live 'X' miles away'', ''there was a 'burglary' earlier, where have you been all evening?'', ''if you dont move along you'll get a night in the cells'' etc.
- if not produced its arrest and police station.
i wonder if a person that has forgotten or lost the id, if taken to the station would they then be charged with wasting police time.
nothing would surprise me in modern day britain. who pays for replacements? bank cards eventually wear out and are replaced by the bank*, will the state id cards wear out or last forever?
all they will do is help harass the law abiding public.
