If you won the lottery...

apart from paying taxes on it. Lottery money in the UK is tax free.

Very nice.

Whatever you do then, don't win it over here. :)

On a side note, I knew a girl who won half of a TX Lottery. Her share was 20MM. Had to take the equal annual installments over 20 years as they didn't have the lump sum option yet.

That was back in '94 so she's got 6 more annual payments of 1MM per year till 2014 I'm guessing.

I reckon i'd buy myself a nice little house for about £150,000 grand, a decent car for about £4000 ish.

Then stick as much into a decent savings account as i'd need in order to get myself about £4-500 pound a week to live on and then give the rest to charity who need it more than i do.

That's nice of you, mate. But keep half at least. Remember you can will it to charity when you die. I just don't want to see you skint :D(y)

Yeah until my family take me to court to change the will for leaving all my money to a cat sanctuary lol.

I honestly reckon that as long as i had my own little house that as long as i had about £500 a week to pay bills and whatever i'd just carry on living as i am so would have no need for any extra money so might as well give it to someone who needs it now.

None of that fancy cash splashing for me.

All our cash will go to cats protection and something to do with horses/ponies. Luckily we won't have any selfish brats to squabble over our "fortune".

do you really disagree with taxing lottery prizes? i feel like if one wins the lottery, the last thing on their mind should be how much they're losing in taxes.

bit like me giving you the gift you've always wanted, and you complaining i didn't put a bow on it.

and as for what i'd do, i'd give a third to charity right away. then i'd follow bill's model and put the rest in an account to gain interest and still pull in a good 8,000 a year to supplement any other income i earn.

more like giving head then asking me to finish myself off as your off for a dump.

why pay tax on the winnings, so you get lucky and the chancellor does too, he'll get is cut on the tax on interest and all that you buy. this tax everything culture has to stop, you cant recieve a "gift " off someone for fear that they may pop their clogs in the next 7 years ( i think) as you will then be hit for inheritance tax, so if someone gifts you say 10 grand be sure to leave it well alone for a while or put the govs. cut in a safe place.

No I don't disagree with it.

I was just commenting on the difference between how the UK handles lottery winnings and how the US handles lottery winnings.

I don't have a problem with the tax on lottery winnings at all. That's just how it is over here.

ah fair enough, i didn't know they weren't taxed there.

is the lottery state run in the UK as well? actually is it state run all over the country in the US? either. I know it is in VA but i really can't speak for the rest of the nation.
