2024/25 Iliman Ndiaye

He is our main attacking creative player. Where would we be without his contributions this season? Possibly in the bottom 3. If anything happens to him injury wise, we are in big trouble. We need another option that could be as influential as ndiaye has been, ideally for the right hand side, but also to cover for ndiaye when and if he is not available. It would be a huge gamble not to have another option signed this January.

Prefer him on the left personally. #10s don't get the space they used to

But a number 10 doesn’t just stand still in a central position and wait for the ball to come to him? I know that’s how Sean Dyche’s tactics with Doucoure skulking about would have you believe that’s what a number 10 is, but it isn’t. The thing with the number 10 position is that it’s a free role. It requires a level of intelligence to find pockets of space when they become available in different areas of the forward line. It requires constant mobility, pulling the opposition midfielders out of their natural position at times. Nobody can convince me that Ndiaye isn’t perfectly suited to that role.

Cheers mate but I don't build my opinions around what Dyche would do

There's a reason a lot less teams play with an out and out attacking mid now compared to 20 years ago, and there's a reason you see a lot less players like the fella in my profile pic

Defenders twice as athletic as they used to be, teams play 20/30 yards further up the pitch, and more teams play an out and out DM or 2; so it's a lot harder to find those pockets

He's obviously more suited to playing off the striker than anyone else we have and if we could clone him I'd play one there and one LW, but til we can do that I think our team will be more effective with him on the left cutting in

Ndiaye is incredible at what he does. At this point in time, he does not look like the creator people are making him out to be. He is an incredible isolation player. Incredible. Honestly if we ever get enough talent around him, I wouldn't mind seeing him at striker for some games just to let him have a go at defenders. But I have seen little evidence of consistency in threading the needle and lots of his shots are wild and mishit. I believe that will come with time, but he has done well where he is. McNeil at this point in time clearly thrives more in creating chances which is why he saw minutes there.
