2024/25 Iliman Ndiaye

My motm yesterday, was involved in anything good we did for the entire time he was on the pitch, unlike McNeill who was garbage first half, along with many others.

He’s a great little technician, unreal ball control with pace, massive workrate and desire.

Hope he continues playing well, its nice to have a player that actually scares the opposition.

Having someone who can carry the ball up the pitch is a complete game changer. Last couple of seasons we’ve found ourselves pinned back in our own half for long periods too often because we keep panicking and booting it away, but he takes the ball and allows the whole team to move 10-20 yards up the pitch which is a massive pressure relief valve for the defence. He’s the exact type of player we’ve been missing.

In many ways he reminds me of pienaar. He was also excellent at moving us further up the pitch and winning free kicks etc

We need him receiving the ball much higher up the pitch where he can be far more dangerous.

The tactics are bloody abysmal so this is no criticism of Ndiaye but half the time he's having to sit on top of his own full back for far too much of the game.

We're basically asking him to dribble us out of trouble from about 20 yards behind the half way line far too many times.

I'm not saying put him in the 10 role either as I can't be doing with watching Mcneil play another minute as a plodder of a winger, but we've simply got to be getting the shape higher up the pitch instead of having our wingers almost standing next to the full backs.

He's levels above Tarkowski as a footballer.

Would the team have stayed up in 22/23 without Tarks holding things together? I doubt it.

Different types but considering the endless issues at the back in those times and it being a free transfer it's one of the best bits of business the club have done in the last decade.

Exactly the type of consistency needed in that position and Branthy coming through at the same time is also a stroke of good luck.
