Ask his advice on a second-hand set of clubs, it will be a good move to buy them from him/her. Book some lessons ending up with a 'course lesson'. This will be playing several holes with the Professional or his assistant and involve course etiquette as well as playing the game.
If you want to get involved on the social side of the club, go to the club as often as you can, meet as many members as you can, become a familiar face.
