I thought that different people from different areas all had insighful knowledge of the lighthearted names each locality had for themselves or had been given by outsiders.

It failed. I'm not too proud to state that.

She once referred to Birkenhead as the One Eyed City.

It was explained to me years ago as originating from the Birkenhead tunnel exit resembling an eye though there are other slightly less plausible reasons.
