Keep in touch Rob. Top intro post that.
I was asked to introduce myself as I have recently joined the forum so here goes.
I was born in Islington North London a stones throw away from Arsenal’s Highbury Stadium. Everyone in the area and in my family were Arsenal fans except my Dad who was a Chelsea fan. I went to see Arsenal play a few times but I just did not like the way they played. I first saw Everton play on the last day of the 1961/62 season, ironically against Arsenal at Highbury. Everton won 3-2 with two goals from Alex Young and one from Jimmy Gabriel. What impressed me apart from the victory was was the fluent football they played, I was hooked and Alex Young (the golden vision) became my hero.
For some years I was restricted to seeing Everton play only when they played London Clubs, however, as soon as I was old enough to travel on my own I started traveling to Goodison Park. I attended all Everton’s home games as well as their games in London from 1967/68 onwards. After, Alex Young left the club, Alan Ball became my idol and then Joe Royle. I have been fortunate enough to see Everton win the title four times. In 1962/63 when They were unbeaten at Goodison, 1969/70 which was as close to a pure footballing side as you could ever wish for, 1984/85 the best season in the Club’s history and 1986/87. I have also seen some fantastic players.
I have lived in the USA since February 2012 and I am fortunate enough to be able to see all live Premiership games and I am an overseas member of Everton Football Club, however, I miss the contact, banter and chats with Evertonians. Which is why I joined the Forum.
Well that’s my introduction. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

Welcome fella. Who's been your most well regarded player in all of that time, and why?
For me (I'm younger) I'd go with Peter Reid fir the way he made the midfield tick and led by example, hunting the ball all over the pitch.
Well put. Could certainly do with Alan Ball in the current side.Difficult one. Alex Young was the idol of the Goodison terraces when I first supported Everton and he was my idol too. However, looking back he was inconsistent. He could be hardly noticeable one week but then be brilliant the next. Unsung heroes like Jimmy Gabriel and Brian Harris come to mind but if I had to narrow it down to one I would have to go with Alan Ball. He never gave less than 110% every game and he loved to win and hated to lose. I was shocked when Harry Catterick sold him to Arsenal, Ball never looked right in an Arsenal shirt to me. Catterick said it was good business because he paid £110,000 for him in 1966 had five years out of him and sold him for double that amount to Arsenal, however prior to the transfer Catterick when asked how much he would accept for Ball said he would not accept a million. I think there were other issues, I know Ball’s passion for winning was upsetting other players. Anyway, I have seen some fantastic players but Ball would be my choice.

Hello, Rob. Whereabouts are you in the US of A?

My wife is from California and that is where we lived the first three years I was here. We moved to Oregon and that is where we have lived for the last three years.
By far the greatest player that I have witnessed. It may now be a cliche, but 'perpetual motion' summed up Alan Ball.
An incredibly skilled footballer, his talent should never be doubted, but the sheer effort that he put into every game would have been enough to make him a star today even had he lacked that talent.
Some really nice areas in Oregon
