Is Premier League Boring?

Over exposure, and the slow erosion of the cultural history of the game. Showing my age but three o'clock kick offs on Saturday,FA Cup draw on Monday lunchtime.Teams fined for playing a weakened team in the FA Cup.What was once the working man's game has now become just another money maker for television. Being told you're watching an exciting game when you're close to nodding off through the boredom of watching the ball being passed sideways and backwards for ten minutes. So on and so forth.

Seems most of you on here absolutely hate football.

I don’t like VAR at all but I’ve enjoyed watching a lot of teams this year. Bournemouth, Villa, Brentford, Newcastle, Fulham.. they play some cracking stuff at times.

Let’s be honest for the first half of this season, we played the most turgid tripe since Wimbledon were in the league. WE were the boring team.

Same here, thought the footy played by the mid table teams has been so much more entertaining than the footy from the so called big teams.

There’s zero competition outside of a few teams who have been up there for about 25 years (and actually it wasn’t much more competitive before that).

If you have a good player they’re going to leave and join one of those teams. If they’re good, not great there’s a good chance a Saudi club will come in for them on silly money.

The vogue play style is one that needs really good players to play but is also incredibly boring to watch.

Things like diving, making a meal out of any contact and timewasting have become accepted and encouraged parts of the game, whilst making a “big tackle” is likely called a foul fair or not for being “dangerous”

VAR means you can’t go full “limbs” because something requiring zooming in to the individual pixel groups might rule the goal out AND it’s a tool to favour certain clubs.

Footballers have been in bubbles since the start of their academy days and have absolutely no concept of real life and they’re so well media trained that they just come across as lacking in personality and impossible to relate to.

Armchair “fans” behind computers and televisions in other continents are more valuable than STH’s and the communities most of these previously working class clubs have grown from.

TL;DR: it’s as soulless cash grab just like everything but the actual sport it’s pants to watch now too.

It’s just crap.
Also players are often far too freindly with each other now. I think it was Iwobi being all buddy buddy with Watford players after we'd lost 5-2. Players like Tim Howard, Cahill, Vaughan and Baines genuinely cared about results. Also modern game has become Americanized, it's much more like basketball. VVD and Salah both held RS to ransom and stupid RS view them both as heroes. City changed their whole style of play for Haaland. Punditry is appalling, watching Spitty, Henry and Micah Richards pretending Kate Abdo is their mate, when they want to roger her is cringeworthy. Neville and Jamie Redknapp endlessly having "heated debates" to gain views is ridiculous. I like pundits like Hansen, Lawrenson and Billic, because they looked at things average fan would miss. Now punditry just involves Micah Richards telling viewers, what we've all seen with our own eyes.

How has the modern game become Americanized?

We dislike modern game. I used to watch other teams games regularly and knew most players from other clubs. An average RS team have cruised to title, because league is so crap. There's been no competition for title, no relegation battle. We comfortably drew twice with Arsenal this season, because they have adopted Guardiolas tactics. Just pass it side to side endlessly, rather than just crossing it in or having a shot. In past you have somebody like RVP, who would come up with a moment of brilliance. Now a lot of teams are so obsessed with losing ball, they don't cross or take shots.

Leicester yesterday…. I know they’ve been gash for months, but you’re 1-0 down with minutes left to play in a match you must win, but also seemed content to knock the ball around the back line instead of trying to launch the kitchen sink at the RS

Football just mirrors life in general, the few at the top will do anything to keep the wealth amongst themselves and the blatant corruption will take care of the rest. The media narrates how it will play out.

We get a points deduction, man city gets 115 charges swept under the rug. Chelsea sell their own assets to themselves, match officials don't even bother trying to look neutral. Don't even know why I bother to have an interest in the sport at this level really.

Yeah, the league isn’t crap, which is why the promoted sides can’t stay up. The ‘big 6’ have all had better sides recently certainly. But the league is good (we still have 4 sides in Europe and they aren’t the best 4 by a mile)

Arsenal is such a bizarre example to use, a side that was notorious for years for trying to score the perfect goal and not taking on shots or crosses when they could.

I meant when they had Henry, Viera, Pires and others not later Arsenal sides. But even then you would get great goals from Rosicky and others.

There's multiple factors why newly promoted sides struggle. Premier League is generally competitive, when it's us vs West Ham or Fulham. It's just not very competitive at top. A lot of sides are quite happy to roll over for RS, unless they have something to play for. Wolves were just passing sideways at Anfield rather than having a shot. When RS were going for title in 2009, countless sides such as Hull, Fulham, West Ham, Everton and City took points off them.at Anfield. Now a lot of sides just look at playing RS as an expected loss and aren't really arsed about losing. Had it not been for ref not giving a free kick to West Ham, they would of won. Yesterday Leicester player had a head injury and referee didn't stop play in build up to RS goal.

Everton wrote the book on rolling over away at the top sides, we’ve been doing it for decades now.

It’s not a great Liverpool side but they ARE the best team in the league (Arsenal need a striker, City need a reboot). It’s tin foil hat stuff to think there is a league wide conspiracy at play.

The main reason why people will be saying it is boring is due to Liverpool about to win it.
It isn't that RS are going to win title that bothers me, it's lack of challenge from other clubs. When City won league in 2018, they were simply far better than anyone else. RS aren't that great, hence why the 1st decent side, they played in Europe they got outplayed in both legs. Another issue is VAR, RS should on won title in 2022, had it not been for VAR denying a clear handball by Rodri. When we scored last minute goals against Fulham and West Ham, VAR didn't spend 5 minutes looking for reason to disallow them. When we scored against RS in last minute, VAR looked at it for 5 minutes, 1st to make sure it wasn't offside, then for a foul in build up. Our penalty against Arsenal was far softer, than penalty we were denied against United. Salah continually dives, yet only Niasse was punished for diving. I have no issue with teams winning things fairly, but titles shouldn't be won or lost based on decisions of some unaccountable bellends on an industrial park somewhere. Look at how quickly they released audio, when RS got decision against them vs Spurs. There wasn't any demand from media, that VAR audio should of been released, when we were denied a stone wall penalty against City.

Be better now Leeds are back in town . Great day yesterday now the hard work begins. The Championship is a hard slog but the PL is going to present us with a whole set of new problems. Hopefully we get 6 quality players in. Starting with a good keeper a left back some strong centre mids and 2 genuine goal scorers that are strong and quick. Sounds easy . In a different position from Radrizzani era 49ers Westfield Red Bull (Klopp) in background might make a fist of it this time.
