Calling on long memories here...

For me, following since '89, I'd have to say yes. Everything about this season, as short as it is, has just been overwhelmingly terrible. The hype has inflated its utter crapness in comparison to previous terrible periods where it was half-expected.

The Smith tenure was awful.

This is on par with Moyes season 2 I'd say. There's some right things, but it's just not clicking for whatever reason.

A decent manager will turn things around I think.

I think you've forgotten how bleak the Smith years were. No hope whatsoever, selling anyone who was even remotely decent. Buying absolute dross. Travelling to aways and getting turned over, year after year.

What comes to mind for me is Martinez second year(?) where we lost abar 8 games around Christmas. Woeful.

And Moyes the season after we finished 4th. Drew v Chelsea at home then kicked on from there.

No chance.

Whilst we are utter dog spunk at the moment, i still feel this team can put a few wins together and gain some momentum. Just need a bit of luck.

The issue today is that the manager tries to fit what are our perceived best players into any formation.
That's got to stop and pick the best available players for a specific planned formation and work to that.

Williams should not play again, I'd rather have Snides at centre half than him, I hope Keane is fit soon as he's the only option at centre half until then jags or Holgate
Play a left sided defender at left back, obviously not Baines as he is past it, it needs to be Garbutt or anyone from the U23s who has a left foot, a bit of pace and can defend (where the hell is Galloway)
Davies and Gueye/baningame in the centre with Vlasic right and Lookman left with Siggy and DCL, those are our best players in a 442 until Coleman, Mori and bolasie are back.

I wouldn't have Mirallas anywhere near the team I'd rather have Henen as an impact sub with Niasse also

We are in the mire..

‘94 was a golden era in comparison - we had guts and spine all over the pitch, but the Manager was out of his depth. When Joe Royle came in, he had a team of fighters that grafted for survival, no matter how tough it was.

Now though, there is nothing of that ilk. I’m literally hoping there will be 3 Prem teams who have a worse league season than us as I think that’s the only way we’ll stay up.
