It's snowing

Can someone please explain to me why people think it is fine to pull their children on sledges along roads while cars are still coming? (albeit not that often and slowly)

Surely they should walk on the road pushing prams etc. when it is dry then. Yes cars will be coming faster and a bit more often but they will stop and be able to turn 10x quicker than they can on this stuff.

Still a lot of snow lying, the winds remain gale force and the temperature has gone up to 0°C. The problem in Lincolnshire is that the wind is blowing the snow off the fields and causing snow drifts which block roads within minutes.

I remember the winter of 1963 well. It was then that I stopped camping out on visits to Wales to climb, and started sleeping in barns (though a bit squeamish about rats and disease). I also remember sunbathing in the snow that Easter. That thought reminds me that winters end.

Happy birthday for tomorrow just think all the snowmen yo can make all the best;)
And no icy cold weather will not kill your Bamboo ;)

Its way worse than forecast, and they arnt even bothering to clear the snow cos there is another load on its way later ffs. Walked/slipped the 4 mile round trip to get topped up on cat food, and a few bits and bobs. Reckon that will be my birthday treat tomorrow as well,

Exactly the same here. The actual snow on the level isnt that bad, its the stuff blowing from the fields that has knackered us.

Download channel BBC 4 on the I player 1963 winter from Boxing Day to almost march 15 foot drifts and we were ice locked all the way to France - a wry comment of General Degal will have to let us join the common market nowlol
The whole coast line the sea was frozen our war ships had ice breakers to clear the ice away from the then thriving sea ports - canals frozen mains pipes frozen over 100 people died!
A great watch it started off coming in from Siberia - then an Icelandic blast fetch the ice - snow on snow dynamite to blast the drifts away - shortage of everything for almost three months then came the floods in the thaw - oh and we won the league in an extended season;)

Is Merseyside the only place in the British Isles that's seen almost none of this weather? A light dusting on Tuesday(?) that melted by midday.

Seems that way mate. We have been battered since 3.00pm yesterday, all night, and its just starting to fade down now. Trains, buses cancelled, tons of roads blocked or closed. Chaos.

Well I defo wouldn't want that amount!

I dont know what the micro-climate is here with the low lying land and being close to the coast, but it must make some difference. I mean there's been snow before, of course. I'd guess this place statistically speaking sees less snow than elsewhere. But this year the disparity is ridiculous.

Its identical to mine; pretty much sea level, close to Bristol Channel. We rarely get much snow, and this is by a mile the worst I can remember. 5ft snow drifts blocking our lane to the shops, so a 4 mile "walk" this morning ffs.
