James McCarthy

Not aggressive enough for his position for me, and nearly every pass goes backwards. Saying that, that could describe 90% of our squad at the moment

Has anyone got a .gif of McCarthy's three consecutive tackles yesterday, proper boss agression from Jimmy there like, similar to when the lid who's ball your playing with needs to go home for tea and you won't pass him it back.

I think he's not the finished article but got a lot of potential. He tidies up well defensively and he's good technically. Just needs to learn to be a bit braver going forward on occasion.

I really wonder why some dont rate him. It's incredibly strange as with another player alongside him and barkley we could be ridiculously good in the centre.

One there, one to partner stones in the future and a top forward -- new spine and we will be seeing a very good tean indeed.

I love James McCarthy, yeah he may not be a physical speciman like Toure, or a genius with the ball like Scholes, but in the system that Martinez plays, he is an integral cog.

He swarms around attackers in the midfield area, breaking up attacks, shows great energy and desire, he is always around the ball when the oppo are coming forward, his passing is solid and he doesnt try anything too stupid when deep. Those three tackles yesterday sum him up for me.

Gareth Barry has got a lot of plaudits this season, but with out McCarthy i dont think he would look so solid as McCarthys energy have allowed him to sit right in the middle of the park with out venturing too wide too often, thus exposing his lack of pace. Together they compliment each other and i hope that McCarthy is learning some of Barrys positional skills.

just starts running around like a madman. Watch him in the next game mate, he just starts legging it everywhere and he always falls over!

Covering for Gareth Barry's 78 year old legs half the time, that's why.

If he's gone to chase down a full back, say, even when he maybe shouldn't have, it's up to the rest of the side to fill the hole somehow.

He's better off the ball, than off it. I think he's a good player now, just needs to develop an attacking side to his game. One day he'll be really good; I'm sure he has goals in him.
