I've said the past few weeks I think he's been tremendous. It took me a long time to warm to him but he's really started to take the game by the scruff of the neck being the furthest on closing down, last ditch blocking of efforts, looking or space. Barry has been the perfect mentor for him which has make him grow into such a dominant player. If I seen a team mate put in the yards he does that would inspire me to want to do better.

Gotta hold my hand up and say that I had never heard of this lad before we got him and cant even remember his when they done us in the semi, but this lad reminds me so much of bracewell back in the 80's. He does all the donkey work and cover the whole pitch. At the game today I was thinking we got him for half a Felliani's.....

He was absolutely brilliant today. Seems like a steal with what we paid for him.

Would be great if he had a bit more going forward but an excellent player.

Always rated him at Wigan and knew he'd be a good signing but he's even surprised me in the way he's gone about his game at us.

I really can't remember him getting about the pitch like he does and being so tenacious but I like his style. Personally I think atleast one of your CM's should be like that.

We have a great blend in CM right now and even if Barry doesn't sign on or isn't here for long, I think McCarthy would form just as great a partnership with Gibson.

James McCarthy is a tremendous player, just like my favourite player from the great 84/85 side Paul Bracewell. He's just so important to how we play, and my player of the season.
