James McCarthy

he had to be sliding for that goal though, just sums him up, never stops. Love him, my player of the season and all we saw was pretty much his defensive side, mind blowing how good he could be next season of he pushes up a little more during games to assist the attack whilst the other cdm covers, he showed he can do it at hull and was really good at getting involved in the attack at wigan under rm.

He's one of those players you notice him more when he's not in the side than when he is. When he's not in the side our midfield looks unbalanced and the opposition seem to find it easier when he's not playing. I think McCarthy seems like an decent guy he's always the first 1 to go our fans and applaud them. I personally think Barry was our 2nd best player after Coleman last year rather than McCarthy. He does need to improve in certain areas and I'm sure he will, same with Barkley and Coleman.

Every good side needs a top class spine. Stones mccarthy and barkley are really good players. Just need a couple more to compliment them and we can really grow short and long term.

Lee Cattermole, only 25.

I may be wrong but lee cattermole was sold by martinez to sunderland, so why would he go in for a player he didn't believe was good enough for wigan?

I take that back he said this about him "Lee is not for sale. End of story," said Martínez. "He is a fantastic player, a leader on and off the field, and is central to our plans going forwards. We are not interested in selling him, which was why this offer was rejected immediately.

he was later sold for 6 million so it may have been just to up the price

He wanted to keep him, he had just taken over as manager of Wigan but the Sunderland deal for Cattermole had been in the pipeline for weeks.

In Roberto's autobiography, its his biggest disappointment in football not managing Lee Cattermole.

An autobiography he was way to young for that, martinez loves his defensive midfielders and clearly has a soft spot for them considering it was his position
