He never came back from that injury a few years ago. We didn't imagine it, this lad was explosive at first. Covered every inch of the pitch, shut down every opposition attack and moved us forward at least 20 yards whenever he had the ball.

We literally couldn't play without him and missed out on 4th place because he missed a key game.

After that injury though he's lost a yard and a half of pace when his main strength was energy and he seems to have lost his stomach for a tackle. Passing was never his strong suit so we were basically left with a blunt player with nothing to offer but to do Barry's running for him whilst he played as the creator.

Sad story because it isn't the lads' fault but he probably doesn't have a future at the club or at this level now. He'll always be the Roy Keane that might have been.

A good logic summery of MaCarthy since his injury;)

Right on that injury and RM did play him wrong, while McCarthy must shoulder some of the responsibility.

Won't be actively moved on I think and if no offers come in he'll stay, but if somebody does come in for him with a decent fee think he'll be off.

Spot on mate. Looks lethargic nowadays and only uses spurts of energy whereas he used to be a bundle of energy for 90 mins. You can see him trying to recover from runs and tackles by jogging or walking for a little while. What is most disappointing about him is he never or very rarely offers himself for a pass when the player in possession is struggling to find someone. He seems to hide.
