James McCarthy

Koeman doesnt want him out, but im pretty sure hes told all the players that anyone who doesnt wanna play a squad game can jog on.

That's the way I read it.

There should be no place nailed down as permanent. That includes all the arl arses who'll run down to the Echo offices if they're deprived of theirs.

Hes not average, hes limited, theres a massive difference, he performs the role of DM very well, he just cant do much else, thats not a bad thing at all.
He is. But he's shown that it's in his game if he allows himself to throw caution to the wind. Martinez encouraged it to limited effect; I expect Koeman to give it a shot.

The lad is relatively young.

Let;s put it this way: if Baines at almost 32 is now learning the ropes as a defender, McCarthy at 25 is still well capable of picking up a few strings to his bow.

Yeah, mate. Probably the same source that said he wants him out.
Probably. So I guess we shall see, but I do doubt he'll ever command one of the central midfield positions again and Koeman doesn't strike me as the type of manager who would put a central midfielder in a wide position, for example Cleverley on the left. So his days may not be limited but his opportunities may be unless, heaven forbid, we get a injury.

A lot of the grief that McCarthy gets on here is due to his pretty average ( at best ) form in the last two seasons.

What people overlook is for those two seasons we had strikers and wingers pretty much under instruction to limit their tracking back so, for a lot of time, McCarthy was pressing on his own, which is almost always doomed to failure.

In his first season, Pienaar was around snapping at peoples heels, so McCarthy was less isolated.

If he was playing alongside Barry now, he'd be getting a lot more help from the likes of Barkley and Mirallas so he'd almost certainly look better than he has for a while.

If Gana gets injured or his form drops then it'd be interesting to see McCarthy given a run in the team.
I think that's spot on, tbh. The two CMs were over-stretched and then over-run when attacks broke down.

People are just looking at preseason and seeing a sluggish McCarthy being unimpressive...but then who was impressive preseason.

At base though I think and I've said there's a fundamental need for some supporters to just ditch players because they want a new one in. It's pretty frightening.

You haven't got a clue how Koeman sees matters with the players here, and neither has anyone else.

It's amazing how many people seem utterly convinced they are on the same wavelength as a PL manager and their likely plans and way of operating.

Is he up there?

He's injured, he's from Glasgow, he's a boyhood Celtic fan, and Celtic were at home to Aberdeen today.

Probably asked RK if it was ok to go back to see his family in the circumstances.

While I would prefer to see all squad players at Everton home matches, injured or not, I'm not sure this is expected of the modern player these days.

I seriously doubt that a move to Celtic is realistic for all sorts of reasons.

I'll bet you right now that Barry and Gueye will be first choice CM pairing (if fit) this season.
