James McCarthy

McCarthy should have been sent off. Sorry but I've already said as much on another thread on Saturday (before I knew the extent of the injury). We'd be annoyed if shoe were on other foot. And I think it was intentional to the extent that I think Maccer wanted to leave something on Payet. But the idea that he is therefore some kind of criminal ala West Ham fans is laughable. Payet's only out for three months because he wasn't man enough to admit Jimmy had hobbled him and insisted on playing on for the most of rest of the match with a crocked leg. That's where the damage was done. ;)

Don't remember an Everton uproar when Dier put Cleverley out for 3 months.

If i recall correctly Dier didn't even get booked for this.

Just cause you don't remember it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Go back and read the Spurs match thread or an Eric dier thread, there was loads of crying about how it should have been a booking/red.

Oh, and from the laws of the game :

Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the
front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force
and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.
A player who is guilty of serious foul play should be sent off and play is
restarted with a direct free kick from the position where the offence occurred
(see Law 13 – Position of free kick) or a penalty kick (if the offence occurred
inside the offender’s penalty area).

Getting any kind of touch on the ball (supposedly winning it) does not therefor constitute a fair tackle so it's a shame that so many football fans don't actually know the rules of the game they watch.

Unless they think the rules should be different and dangerous tackles that injure players should be ok. Fair enough.

Agreed.

Did I say anything about McCarthys tackle? I said I don't remember an out cry and apart from the usual head the balls who react to anything on the match day thread I dont recall a big uproar, disappointment yes, but nothing out the ordinary.

Also I'm okay with my knowledge of the rules of the game though thanks.

That post was meant to be split in two, the first part in reply to you and the 2nd part after the "oh, and from the laws of the game" for everyone else, apologies if that wasn't clear.

And do you honestly think there weren't loads of people on here crying about Diers tackle and it's only West Ham fans who do so when their player gets injured? There were, trust me.

Just watched the video, as couldn't really see the tackle properly on the day.

I'd be screaming for McCarthy's head if he was a West Ham player who came in like that and crippled someone like Deulofeu for 3 months.

It's a really poor challenge.

It might make West Ham falter. They're a direct competitor this season.

Could've gone for the tackle, got lucky but he didn't set out to hurt the lad, it's just unfortunate. One of them things.

I'm more worried about his form falling off a cliff this season than a bad tackle to be honest
