I like McCarthy, think hes brilliant but not quite "good enough" as a CM for a team that wants to aim for top 4.
However at DM i think hes an outstanding player. I understand Barry is having a good season and covers a lot of ground but i think McCarthy in at DM would benefit the team far more and if we needed a box to box player we should be looking to bring someone in and not play McCarthy there.
If Ledson comes through (however gradual) would you see him as a DM or in the CM position? It would be nice if he could be backup to McCarthy in the DM role.

If there's one player we definitely do overrate it's McCarthy. I can see why, he's got a good reputation with fans outside Everton, he's neat and tidy in possession and is always crashing into tackles which is what the fans want.
He could probably develop into an extremely good out and out defensive midfielder if he gets to grips with the positional aspect of the game.

Id say the opposite is true, hes vastly underrated by many of our own fans.
I think if he is allowed more responsibility as the only DM in the first eleven with a CM alongside him and Barkley ahead he will be amazing for us.
I think alot comes down to us not having a superstar CM which is why hes playing McCarthy there for now.

I'd very much say I've been in the minority on here that doesn't get too carried away with him.
I think Barkley and McCarthy has potential too, however not right now. With our defence the way it is we'd be better off with someone like Carsley partnering him.

I see the opposite. I think Barry for all his experience and running stats doesnt have the mobility or pure aggression thats needed in DM thesedays when facing teams who can just have players run past him with their pace.
McCarthy for me would be first name in at DM. Partnering him would either be a deep playmaker BUT who can tackle....or a powerful box to box player like William Carvalho...

Done his groin now. Probably rushed back to quickly as these knock on injuries tend to occur after a long period out. Shame. Would have expected a cameo appearance as a sub first just to test the water.
