Not sure why people are comparing McCarthy to Besic.

McCarthy is a DM and will take the position from Barry
..hes playing CM as we have no quality in that position while Besic is injured.

Clearly McCarthy and Besic are the desired combo when Barry leaves. But behind them other than the u21s we have nothing.

Mccarthy can't do barrys role. Will have to buy someone or change tactics

Yep, not the role but the "DM position". Basically McCarthy should be classed as a DM and not a CM....just so happens he is being used as a CM for now.

Osman - out of contract
Gibson - out of contract
Cleverley -- On the left
Besic - CM / injured
Ledson - On loan
Walsh - On loan
Barry - 35 now

In the summer we will have:
McCarthy
Besic
Ledson (perhaps)
Walsh (perhaps)
Barry

I imagine just in terms of positions we would have a DM and a CM. Squad wise that would mean:

DM-- McCarthy/Barry/Walsh (?)
CM -- Besic/Ledson(?)

So at the very least I think we will see some tactical changes and personnel additions.

Getting booked early on did negate what he can do fully though as he couldn't run the risk of another foul.

Stupid decision for the penalty like but he made a mistake and fortunately we got off the hook.

I'm not sure you can say it's 'stupid'. I can understand why you don't agree but there is certainly a very valid argument that besic offers more to the team overall when he's fit. The goals against column would look slightly different had we conceded the penalty he gave away & the absolute sitter that gosling missed so it can sometimes be a bit of a red herring.

Also worth noting that the clean sheet at the etihad which you have been lauding for some weeks on the Martinez thread came with besic in that role.

I've got no issue with Besic playing at all mate. But he isn't fit at the moment and there's no need to risk putting him straight back in.

When he is fit then I'd probably still start McCarthy but only if he's in good form (like he has been for the last few weeks). Good to have that competition.
 
I'd give him a go as an out and out defensive midfielder when Barry leaves. Let him sit in behind two proper footballing midfielders and see how he does.

Precisely.

Thing is he was signed as a DM and first season we had him and Barry as two DMs. Now we have Barry doing a Busquets type role and a CM further forward which is McCarthy (out of position) or Besic.

When Barry goes Martinez either goes and signs someone to replace him long term...or he will need to have McCarthy there but the tactics will need to change.

Yes Zat, but if we assume Barry has gone, it also means Jags has gone.

So we would play 2 ball playing CBs, say Stones and Mori, thus meaning THEY do the Barry role of starting attacks, McCarthy just sits in the middle and hunts everything that comes near, assisted by Ross and Mume.

Spot on, especially when he is fully fit. Just check out our record with and without him. He's one of the few who plays better when we are struggling which is an invaluable attribute.
 
Poor yesterday but I'd have him in starting 11 everyday. Missed him during our poor run of form November /December. He does nothing special but cover so many players who have the more attacking role. U need him in Ur team!
