Transfer Rumour James Rodriguez

Sign Asamoah Gyan too whilst we're at it!! I'm a big James fan but we'd be stocking up on #10s again with Siggy, Iwobi, potentially Bernard available. Other positions more pressing for me.

Feel like he’d replace Bernard in that between the lines clever, no. 10 playmaker role that he played (literally that 1 time).

But coming in from the right instead of the left allowing Richarlison to play off the left where he’s more comfortable and also adding goals.

Most importantly it would give us options of different types of player when required.

Bernard - Strong link up with Digne, likes to cut in and get involved in shorter passing, sharp movement and the ability to create space in tight areas.
Richarlison - Direct, powerful, wants the ball in the box and infront of goal.
Rodriguez - Clever on the ball and can pick a pass.
Walcott - more of an old fashioned winger wants to go down the line.
Iwobi - I honestly cant say what his strong points are. Not a massive fan, seems to be great and awful at everything...
Siggurdson - direct central midfielder, wants to get space infront of goal, not as mobile but a threat going forward, can obviously drop deeper too.

I count that as the following positions being covered in total;

AML - 3 players can play there
AMR - 3 players can play there
AMC - 3/4 players can play there.

All of whom would offer different things. Naturally Walcott would be first replaced going forward, along with Siggy.

He wouldn't have been my pick, there's concerns about both his injury record and suitability for Pl football. I don't like the idea of signing him because he's a 'marquee name' or will help raise the profile of the club either, it should only about what he can offer on the pitch. That said, got to trust the manager, especially if it's in regard to a player he's worked with before. So if CA wants him, then the club should be all out to deliver.

Real Madrid shouldn't be dictating a price of £40m+ though, given how long they've been trying to get shut and the big wages he's currently on and will doubtless demand should he come here.

Alright then. I'm convinced.

Where shall I send the money?
Did you read this part?

Since moving to Madrid in 2014/15 James has 43 goals and 42 assists in 127 league appearances (or .67 per appearance). Some other notable players in that timeframe:

Kevin De Bruyne: 41 goals, 77 assists in 172 games (.69)
Sadio Mane: 76 goals, 28 assists in 177 games (.59)
Eden Hazard: 52 goals (excluding penalties), 37 assists in 184 games (.48)
Bernardo: 42 goals, 28 assists in 190 games (.37)
Tithead Son: 58 goals, 28 assists in 177 games (.49)

If you have injury questions that is totally fair. Age questions I guess are too but I think he's good enough to ignore that part of it. But the "he's inconsistent" or "all hype" or "never did anything after the 2014 World Cup" shouts need to calm down. He's one gifted player.

Who are you counting as able to play each position? Because I see 1 who can play the left well.

Bernard and Richarlison have played AML the vast majority of the careers along with Iwobi (even if he is probably more suited to being central).

If you dont think they are good enough thats fine, but all three have played wide left throughout their career regularly are defined by being wide attackers.

I think Richy is becoming very much a striker for the long-term though, which is good.

I get what you're saying.

I think for building the squad it would be best to view Richarlison as a striker and Iwobi as a central player and their ability to do ok out wide as a bonus.

Have said just that. In terms of variety/options the only thing we are missing is a left footed AM who can provide balance for the right side. Or can go on the left and be more of a direct threat with a cross.

We just seem to have plenty of different options at teh moment which is great, if we can keep those options while upgrading on the player that would be incredible.

Certainly different options. Not convinced many are good options though. Creative players are a real problem for us. That's why turning down James would be nuts.

He's not the only creative player out there, mate.
