We finished 10th with him mate. And the player that can’t be named had the same goals/assists as him.
In 20 more matches

We were far too reliant on James last season, especially considering we knew we'd be lucky to get 30 games out of him.

Without him we reverted to backs to the wall footy and then when we needed to turn it back on in the run in we were unable to.

That's on the manager at the time and our crackpot DoF.

I can't tell whether that was sarcastic or not but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it wasn't.

Many of us on here actually believe that this is a positive thing. That being used sparingly will actually make him available more often. The player himself probably wouldn't appreciate my saying that but I think it's true, and will enable us to get the most out of him.
Yeah that’s a good point. I don’t think we’ll see him starting but maybe if we’re struggling to unlock a team he gets sent on. With a bit of pace out wide these days, and him looking for those switches he was hitting regularly early last year, it would be something new for teams to deal with.

All boils down to how much Benitez is willing to climb down on this one. You have to think James has to do what he can when called upon, to have any chance of a half decent move after us.

Apart from when we signed him when he was 60 years old.
Yes, but still managed to score 3 goals for Everton in 14 games. But what I am saying is that Eto`o on all parameters has been a more talented player than JR. Because JR is not the best player at Everton at the moment, nor was it last year. What is being talked about is usually the potential of JR, which is a theoretical discussion. In practice, it has been a long time since he has impressed anyone outside the inner core.

What the effing hell are you on about?

Great comeback.

Again, I said as close to world class.
Never.

On what basis, for 5 goals in a World Cup?

His body of work is pretty average, not like he was pulling up trees in France, that World Cup got him the move to Real, and he was discarded to the bench soon after just like at Bayern.

I could name a 100 midfielders in the last 10 years who were better than him and "close to world class".

He's the epitome of a luxury player, doesn't run around much and you only notice him unless he scores a goal which isn't a lot.

10 years? Strange that, because in 2015 he was in the FIFPRO world 11 and the UEFA team of the year. FIFA and UEFA couldn't find anyother midfielders better so I'd love to hear your 96 names - if we are going 442?

Also 2019 he was in the Copa America team of the tournament, so you come back with these 100 players mate.
