Tbh mate I think a lot of team James are paranoid. Journalists are not going to risk being sued for libel by James/his agent for reporting fake news when the club give them no inside scoops these days.

Nothing in it for them.

:D

'No inside scoops'?

Joyce literally had a direct quote from a 'senior coach at Everton' in his piece three weeks ago.

Also, them claiming James is on a certain wage isn't defamation of character :D

PS: I know I shouldn't have bitten here

So Joyce says.

Under Kenwright the local media would do his bidding but since Brands came in they literally get very few bits of info - they were all reporting Moyes was our next manager whilst Usmanov was on a yacht with Ancelotti.

This idea that there is a cabal of media journos in cahoots with the club to lie about James' wages is 9/11 conspiracy stuff.

It won't do any more damage than sitting on Everton's bench I suppose.

He'll play in their league and be the big star and play in the Asian Champions League and be that competition's big star.

That's what Al-Rayyan will be selling to him (as well as match his Everton wage).

I honestly think he'd rather stay at Everton if there was going to be a clear pathway. But I don't think there is. I think he reckons - rightly or wrongly here - that however hard he trains, he won't get picked. I'm not saying that's the right attitude to have, btw, but I get the feeling that's where JR and Benitez are at.

I'm not saying that's RB forcing him out because IMO, every player has to fight for their place.

On top of that though, you've got the club being so, so desperate to get him off the books.
I agree with most of that but I do also believe that James wanted out from the minute Ancelotti left for Madrid.
I don't think they believed it would have been so difficult to find a club.
If Carlo had stayed then James would certainly be playing this season and probably next at Everton which would have brought him close to retirement.
I think they were probably caught out as well by the sudden departure of CA and had not been looking at possible alternatives.

From Bascombe in the Telegraph...

(And I'm going to get the popcorn for the replies)

"The Colombian signed a two-year Goodison deal worth £250k a week in 2020. His contract included a clause to activate a third year based on appearances. Given Rodriguez was only available for 48 per cent of the minutes Everton played last season, that was not triggered. It never will be, either, given the understandable reticence to spend a further £26 million in wages on the 30-year-old over the next two campaigns."

:coffee:
On the plus side, not only did Rodriguez play a pivotal part in securing a win at Anfield for the first time in decades, he's also made Bascombe use the word Everton.
Sheer genius

I’ve heard rumours James wasn’t happy even before Carlo left, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s wanted out since the end of last season.

I guess the big surprise for him was that no decent sides have come in for him.

lol ffs are you suggesting Joyce, an experienced journalist who works for the Times, would fabricate a quote???

I'm not on about local journos being in a conspiracy theory. It's just the complete inconsistency in reporting makes it very hard to believe. And each time James has either been on the verge of a move or turned down a move, his wage has miraculously gone up.

I reckon this could easily be the case too, but the club are equally desperate if not more so.

His wages - whether they're 150k or 250k or £7million a minute - were always going to be the issue for COVID-hit continental clubs though. Maybe he should have taken a cut and played for Porto. But ultimately players don't always think like that.

Absolutely no.

What were these exact same papers saying that James was earning when he first signed 12 months ago?

Benitez has had the locks on his Finch Farm locker changed already.
Goodbye James. We hardly knew you.
