2021/22 James Rodriguez

I’d probably rather have a player available for 50% of the games who in those 50% where he’s available actually contributes something.

You’ve got the likes of Delph available for 5% of our games at a push, on a good wage and Benitez saying he’s quite happy to keep him for the season.

Equally you’ve got players like Gomes who might be available for 100% of our games, again on a good wage, but contributing very little.

We’ve too many well paid players contributing very little, who have been allowed to stay at the club. Would have preferred the club and Rafael to pull out all the stops to make clear to them they need to go and do everything possible to shift them.
Main difference being that James, for all intents and purposes, was on mega money. Also, apparently we can actually spend now that he's gone according to Benitez just then.

It's clear that he wasn't financially making sense anymore.

Who wouldn't love to have a player for any game that would increase your chances of winning it or at least competing?

Delph, Gomes, Gbammin, Iwobi etc, they’re not here doing charity work. Add their collective wage together and it’s far in excess of what James was getting paid. Not only that, look at the number of goals, assists, chances created etc for all four of those guys added together in their time at the club and it’s probably not far off what James did in 50% of one season for us. Don’t talk to me about what financially makes sense. It’s not keeping these diddies at the club, that’s for sure.

So who’s taking them four players off our hands then?

Sick burn...

Benitez on James
James is a very easy & complicated issue. When you had a player in the situation that we had, who could be available for just 50% of games overall, it's not something we can manage... We have to think about the season, not just two or three games
It's not easy to find good offers when you want. You have to manage the offers when they are there. We couldn't find the right ones before. It's the right one for him... We have to ensure the long-term future of the club is protected

Enough said.

@Spadge Vernacular why are these geordie-kopites who hate Evertons manager trying to ruin our club?

MEGA meeting this evening to discuss.

It’s an impossible question for me to answer, isn’t it.

If the issue is saving on wages, I’d have made it very clear - as clear as Rafael made it to James, that they wouldn’t be playing, weren’t part of my plans and they were free to leave. Not playing them, not including them in the squad etc. Let them get the picture as we did with James.

Would there have been any takers, what would their agents have been able to do, who knows. Would have saved a big wedge of wages on folk who won’t be missed and make a negligible contribution to the first team for the money they’re on.

Didnt James play 26 out of 38 last season - wouldn't that be 68.4%?
Next the FSW will say his 4 goals and 5 assists weren't that impressive....

Let’s be honest, we are a bit hamstrung as to whom would take on a lot of our players so we are a bit stuck in that department. We really need to go back to basics with a clear foundation as we change managers so frequently we end up with so many players that don’t fit the whatever manager we have at the times system. It needs to start with the DOF and from the academy upwards to decide what system we are going to use in the long term. Don’t see that being Brands TBH but the system we currently have is. unsustainable.

I get what the manager is saying although we have other players on substantial wages who contribute very little such as Delph, JPG and with Delph in particular given his record who will take him?

It’s a mess this, I’m not having a dig at the manger more at those above him give the go ahead in the decision making over the last few years . It’s gross negligence considering the money spent.

The anti-James campaigners will now move on to Richarlisson or perhaps Gomes...
Richy or Dom, reckon Dom brings in sqilla both fit into the fair play narrative club needs cash for survival etc.

Here is Bennys scouting list.
