Based on the value to Everton in terms of fan base, publicity, marketing + potential TV money and finishing positions etc

Barkley would be worth 40-60mil
McCarthy 25-30mil

They are quoting 70m for Pogba so who knows what Ross is worth, anything from 20m-50m would be my guess.

McCarthy is almost certainly between 18m-23m however Utd or City might pay more.

Need to start looking at the younger guys, hindsight is a wonderful thing but we let Dier go who could have come in to contention for 1st team CB along with Stones and Jags.

I agree with a poster back a few pages who suggested the squad needed an overhaul, we have one of the oldest teams in the league. Even if we got rid of the older guys we could replace them with players we have already in our youth system. Let me show you using the 4-3-2-1 which we was so successful with last season..........

GK - Howard, Howard needs to raise his game or a new 1 or 2 is needed, defo need a keeper to push Howard

RB - Coleman/Kenny
CB - Jags/Galloway
CB - Stones/Browning
LB - Baines/Oviedo/Garbutt

CM - McCarthy/Besic/Gibson
CM - Ledson/Lundstram/Barry (Still has plenty to offer but in a deeper position, not CB)

AM - Naismith/Barkley/Green

RW - Mirrallas/McGeady
LW -

ST - Lukaku/Henen/Long

Total = 24 players

The youngsters I have included are the ones I feel could be good in the future and as we are unlikely to do anything in the league now why not blood some of these in the remainder of the season.

Looking at the gaps in that list we would need a GK (1st team quality), a quality LW and cover (Must have pace), a decent CB (Caulker/Reid/Van Dijk) and a decent back up 1st team quality ST.

For me tho, players like Barkley, Mirrallas and Lukaku have to start every game when fit. Constant rotation means no one can get any sort of consistantcy or form.

To Sell - Hibbert/Etoo/Kone/Osman/Robles/Distin/Pienaar - That would free up a massive amount in wages.

I know not everyone will agree....................

Luke Shaw begs to differ.

Totally different, UTD faced a massive rebuilding job (and still do at the back, I reckon the Coleman story has legs) and have shown they are willing to back the new manager. Can you really see anybody paying over 30 for Barkley? I can't, not right now.

Agree on McCarthy, I would be disappointed with less than 20 but it depends who's in for him.

Your huge range for Barkley shows how unsure people are about him. As our frind Robert has pointed out above, anything less than "Luke Shaw Money" would be a kick in the teeth, but nothing surprises me in football.

It's tough on Barkley, he's missed a LOT of his development through injury, and he definitely feels the burden of expectation on his shoulders being 'one of us.' Hopefully he gets a decent run in a central position, hopefully a little deeper so he has space to run into rather than get crowded out.

Interesting few weeks ahead. :pint2:

There's a big difference in this window to previous windows that being we're not shackled with a mountain of debt, the debt we have is well manageable. We're under no financial pressure to sell,so why do it ?
To be honest if I had 40 + million to spend on a midfielder it would be Schneiderlin from Southampton and or Tadic. Ross is a superb player and he will only get better,he may not be worth 40 + million yet, but he soon will be.

Who's selling anybody? I'm just trying to temper expectations of the most optimistic valuations of our 'diamond' in these pesamistic times.

I would LOVE us to keep hold of Coleman/McCarthy/Barkley etc and see us click into gear.

I don't think we have enough money for a freshen up without at least one major out.

Exactly but I don't think we would sell unless it's at the top end of the 20m-50m which personally I can't see happening this window. Basically Barkley would allow us to build a new stadium and I can't see us selling for anything less.

I think he will be here for another 18 months at least. He would still be only 22 which is still young however he would have shown by that point whether he's worth a huge fee.

It will also take 18 months for the plans and permission to build a stadium to be settled.

If however he has proven to be worth that then I would hope Bill would seek a buyer or investor instead because one world class player is worth far more than 5 average players both on the pitch but more importantly today in image rights and merchandizing.

Basically a fee now would eliminate our risk that Barkley wouldn't turn out to be that player and that if he does then eliminate the risk the buyer wouldn't miss out on him because world class players are almost impossible to attract and they're the difference between winning titles and champions' leagues along with their huge image rights.

That "risk" would be valued at least 30m.

I think UTD will put a bid in for Coleman too, I also have a feeling we might accept it.

If you're looking long term:

GK -- ??? / ???

LB -- Baines / Garbutt
LCB -- Jagielka / Galloway
RCB -- Stones / Browning
RB -- Coleman / Kenny

CM -- McCarthy / Ledson
CM -- Besic / ???

LW -- Mirallas / Oviedo
FW -- Lukaku / ???
RW -- ??? / ???

Even with kids in theres a lot of gaps to be filled.

GK -- Butland or a German
CB -- Van Dijk / Gomez
RW -- Roberts / Depay / Deulofeu / Redmond

Needs action fast + the rest shipped out.

If Mirallas isnt signing this window he needs to be sold ASAP.

Here's a little exersize.....how much would you pay for Wilshire?

He was 'the future of English football' 3 years ago. Hasn't quite worked out for the lad, has it?

Definitely a good point but Wilshire would still command 25m. In other words if Barkley has the same career then if we where offered today for 35m we would only theoretically have lost by 10m. However if he had turned out to be a world class player he would have fetched at least 60m, in Barkley's case probably closer to 80m given the position he plays which means our loss would have been 35m-55m plus not having the player for 3 years.

That's how these values are calculated.

If we had of kept Rooney we probably would have been a CL team for the last decade.

Personally I think we should be playing a 4-3-3. I think the 4-2-3-1 as a formation is too defensive. Teams have worked it out, not just for us but in general.

Slightly stronger position now than when we let Rooney go, no thanks to the board muddling through.

I gaurentee you if bids reach north of 30 Tiny Tears hands will start trembling and we will see him on Sky within days saying he did all he could.
