just read it, its a fair point, hard to think about though.

look, if we had 50-60 mil to spend we could transform the first 11, or at least 3-4 positions imo. but a big spending spree doesnt always work out. but then again it can

This. He proper got into Moyes in his last few seasons. Lost the plot a little bit I think. Nev's management career was so successful that he got the hoof from Dover or possibly Margate, those Vanguards of English football !!!

Martinez wouldn't get 50mil though. No world class player would join. If 28 gets you Rom ( I know its not 28m straightup) then its gonna get 2 maybe 3 decent-ish players tops.

i would rather he just get two big players with the money. BOOM BOOM, instead of spreading the cash over too many players.

problem is, could we pull established 25-30 mil players to the club

Also look at Spurs with bale. Got a ton of money then went on a spending spree and have the transfers haven't worked out (eriksen looks quality though)
 
Then you also have to consider wages as well. Everything following is direct silly season FIFA nonsense...
Even if we got 50-60 mil for Ross we'd be adding a lot of wages to consider. It's just not a smart move really.

In- van Dijk 10m
Shaqiri 15m
KDB or Pjanic- 25m
Marshall - money from mls for Timmy.

Not to mention teams would know we need to spend to replace Ross and would up their demands

if i had the choice, id say build a team around him, james Mc and stones and rom. if they stayed together for the next 4 years, wow. that would basically be the spine of our team down the centre, and they would have complete understanding of each other by then.

By the bizarre length of time Hames hamstring is taking (with no public updates) I think he may well be playing with a prosthesis in future or playing for someone else!

I don't think he is tryng to be controversial in this blog, quite reasonable and thought out.

Hazard and Erickson cost about 32m and 12m respectively. That would leave some left over for signing on fees etc and signings of that calibre would improve the squad. Obviously it's a risk but it is possible. I wouldn't say either were considered world class when they signed, but Hazard is and Erickson is potentially.

Say you brought in Shaqiri and Pjanic hoping they could perform something like Hazard and Erickson. Obviously there is big wages there but there is still a bit of deadwood about the squad.

I'm not advocating the sale, just saying it's possible that we can do it and improve. Risk / Reward.
