It should be there but from many many years of experience deep down i know theres nothing being made available to the manager and hes having to use the old 'we go with what we got' line

Exactly mate. Without ranting at the board. A manager can only do so much and needs help ( players) at times. Will never change until there's one at investment level etc which won't happen.

We know that McCarthy is ready to play or just about ready to play.
The question is how close Gibson, Osman , Pienaar, Hibbert and Howard are.

If these players are ready to play now then we do have quite a strong squad with good competition for places and cover in most positions. If they are not ready and won't be ready for some weeks then the squad is threadbare.

A new signing brings competition , brings new ability but more than anything it gives a lift right throughout the club and to supporters more than any.

Reading through this thread since it started you can feel the desperation to sign somebody even though a lot of the suggestions are unknown, untested, unaffordable and unlikely.

EVERTON NOT LOOKING TO REPLACE ETO'O

First question put to Roberto Martinez is how/if Everton are going to replace Samuel Eto'o, who has left to join Sampdoria.

Here's what Martinez said: "Because Arouna Kone is fully fit and ready to give a lot to the team I don't feel we don’t feel anyone to replace Samuel in that position. I feel we are strong in that department.

"We are not looking at this window to try to find solutions, all the work we did in the summer was to have a strong enough squad to face all the competitions. The work now is to try to get the players back in that confident mood. I feel we have a very good and strong squad. But as a club we will always try to use the windows in our favour."
