Playing devil's advocate here. A win win for all parties if everyone did want the move (highly doubtful)

We loan Rooney for the rest of the season. He gets a chance to come back to us and United still keep him. Then come the end of the season we either buy him at a certain price agreed or United sell him to China if that is what he wants.

That way we get the push of Rooney coming back , he gets a chance to play for us again and United don't lose out on transfer fees.

I doubt we are getting him but there is a thought.
