Excuse my ignorance but what's the difference between a 'contract on the table' and 'contract offered'?!

Contract on the table is the Everton board getting ahead of themselves and drafting a document in the hope that their derisory bid will be accepted for the player.

Contract offered may only happen once permission is actually given to discuss terms with the player.

We'll likely stick to on the table.

Clough isn't an out and out striker and Calvert-Lewin is. I think that's right anyway.

Asked my Bolton supporting mate about it though and he said: "Do you want to take me over a barrel too?"

I'm not sure they are happy about any possibility of him leaving.
