January Transfer Thread 2017

Let's face it, we don't want to end up with another Niasse?
Been nice to get a ST in but we have to trust RK. Only concern is ability to retain Lukaku for next season

LOL

Everton really have secured £7.5m plus £1.5m in add-ons from Sunderland for Bryan Oviedo and Darron Gibson. The bulk of the fee is understood to be for the Costa Rican left-back.

£9m?!?!?!?!?!?!

Sounds about right. We paid about 5 million for Oviedo didn't we, so add in a bit for transfer inflation and you come to 7.5.

Its not that easy mate, 99% of the strikers in the football world will not be good enough to play for Everton. We are in 7th place in arguable the first or second best league in the world. That means the pool of strikers available to us will not be great straight away. Then you have the fact that it is January and any centre forward good enough to play for us will be heavily involved in a team that is only half way through a season and either he will not want to leave, or the manager will not want the player to leave until the summer.

The argument that we had the summer to buy a striker I fully agree with, however the manager came in and decided to spend the summer assessing his squad. This meant he has been able to allow the youth that was capable of it to prosper(if most on here had their way we would have signed enough players in the summer that Holgate and Davies would still be names we hear about now and again in the reserves). On top of that, in them summer months assessing the squad he has quickly established which players are 'deadwood' and he has moved nearly all of them players on inside 6 months.

I understand the thirst for new players, and even more so a centre forward. But if you look at the bigger picture this manager has not put a foot wrong since he walked in the door bar maybe a dodgy goalkeeper signing and a run of 10 poor games when it was pretty obvious he was still working the players out and they were him. This man will not settle for second best, if we haven't signed a forward it is because he doesn't want any available to him.
As putting feet wrong goes, a run of pretty much half your games is basically akin to going on Strictly and breaking Ola Jordan's legs and then accidentally kicking Len Goodman in the face.

Joking aside, I get what you mean. I don't completely agree though. Firstly, most people wanted Davies and Holgate involved from the outset, and the fact it took so long for them to get chances was actually one of the things which Koeman got the most stick about pre Christmas. Secondly, I would say that moving on dead wood is only really a good thing if you use the space freed up to sign better players. If you don't, all you've done is narrow your options. Finally, I honestly don't think it's as difficult as some people are saying to find decent striking options. We're not talking about world beaters here, just decent support/back up. With the much vaunted scouting network we have, I would have thought they could identify a few targets who would improve the squad and be available.

As I've said a few times, I don't really see us bringing anyone in, and that doesn't massively bother me as I don't think we desperately need it. I'm just not sure that the reasons being espoused some are really accurate.

Boss this....the EVERTON transfer committee teasing us as they are, the vixens, having a late breakfast I reckon, calm before the storm an' that, all ready for a massive SHAZAM of an afternoon & evening...

Yisssssssssssssss.....

Gonna be a GREAT day this...;)

*may have accidentally doubled up on me meds, not sure...if so many apologies for skewed positivity.

I expect Mccarthy to be sold and have a negative net spend same as summer, a phantom bid and mosh talk to jim white about it in following weeks after the next loss.

'We bid for manolas but they wouldn't sell' 'watch this space' or something like that.
