We don't do enough transfers from Europe and globally. There is a massive premium for buying domestically, and we add to that by buying average and one-dimensional players. We would be attractive outside the domestic bubble, and more broadly if we got our house in order.
Onana is ok, but we need to be identifying that type 2 years earlier and paying £5 or £10m and not £35m. Sign them, loan them out, and bring them in when ready.
The problem now is the need for extra bodies for fees we can afford trumps everything, and anything like a thought-out process is thrown out of the window. That means we have to compromise and that's what we'll see on deadline day. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
