that was basically the Bielsa offer wasn’t it. Get in a temp boss to see out the season. accept relegation and a clean slate. let him work with the kids until the end of the season turning them into world beaters who will take the championship by storm. like he did with his Rosario u21s at the start of his career. maybe he was less mad than he seemed

That was what we needed. A full on purge. A complete rebuild on all levels. A culture shift. That’s what was on offer. We were down with new signings and we’re down without them. We were down as soon as Lampard was given all the relegation 6 pointers and lost. We had the solution on a platter. Cut your losses, give someone radical a chance to survey the damage and lay the groundwork to making it into a club we actually feel a part of again. Would have been relegated either way, but at least then the wheels of change would be turning in the right direction for once.
