I would imagine and honestly this isnt an excuse, but surely its gotta be a factor.

You have players at the World cup, who probably wont talk till after the World Cup.

Then you have teams with players at the World Cup, sure you are interested in their back up Striker, but what if their main Striker gets injured at the World Cup?

I think its totally unrealistic to expect clubs to have players ready to go when the window opens, for many, many reasons.

Im not saying it cant be done, it does happen all the time, but I dont think its as easy as "Just buy somebody 1st Jan".

It isn't especially this January, but there are players not at the world cup you know and recruitment takes time so it's not unrealistic to be asking of availability and interest now? In fact I would be surprised if they aren't

We should have been asking availability for a few months now.

Most transfers take a long time to complete, talks can sometimes go on for a long time.

We need them relatively soon into the window whatever the case. We can't be waiting till the end like we usually do

Also they need to identify players who fit our style of play and our needs not more "EPL proven" squad players who do neither aka Maupay and Mcneil

…given our predicament & the obvious requirements, I would hope the talking is already done. Worth saying, the vast majority of footballers are not at the World Cup.

But there are players out there we could get who would improve us with some actual proper scouting not just plucking "EPL" proven. We need more imagination who had heard of half of Brighton's signings or Leicesters? We need to find the gems

This is going to be true for lots of teams too. It's not an easy market. Players wont want to lose their best players. You are looking at caste offs, or players playing in leagues like Scotland or Ukraine.

Hopefully you get lucky and get more of a Mykolenko over a Tosun.
