January Transfer Window 2023

It's not really a shot in the dark. He's not good, and while he's 20 and could get better that won't be happening in the time we have him.
Same principle as what I’m saying really. There are players where you’d be saying we’re gambling on them staying fit or settling quickly or being able to transfer their form to a new league etc, but gambling on someone producing when they never have before is a different type of punt.

I'm not so worried about points. We need to play better and the total will be what it is. I just think we've got a bad manager putting very few if any of the players aside from Coady and Tarkowski in spots to succeed and we should change that. Then we can buy players for the present and future for the new guy to hopefully develop and use better. Danjuma picking the ball up where Gray does will struggle too.
I mean frankly points are all that matter - playing better would in theory equal better points, of course.

Just back to your 'comfortably 15th' point, btw, S'ton finished 15th last season, a point ahead of Everton and five clear of relegation. Based on that evidence and this season so far, 15th is very much not a place that you're going to be clear of danger in before maybe the last week or two.

I think you’re wrong.
and 15th isn't some kind of comfy position either.

It's very much still in it. Which is the point - our squad is a relegation contender, one of - realistically unless Rodgers and Moyes really do keep failing - six that will be down there and there abouts if we just go off the squads on paper.

Tough assessment of Gray only won who shown fight
Hardly. He’s played 18 games and got three goals and zero assists. One of the goals was a penalty when we were getting humped 4-0, which barely counts.

They’re the sort of stats for a starting forward that get a team relegated and he’s not alone. Gordon doesn’t have an assist either I don’t think.

I couldn’t care less if he’s shown some fight in recent games, which he has. He, along with the other frauds masquerading as forwards aren’t good enough.

It’s pathetic. Like folk in the Delli Alli thread last season saying we should be grateful for his cameo against Palace, saving us. We were in that position and the one we’re in now because these guys turn up once in a blue moon. I’m not about to applaud them for that.

Just on this as I'm not disagreeing with the point but Gray's expected assists is actually the best in the squad (2.25). I mean,it's not a good rate, but when it comes to the chances created he's actually created the best quality ones.

Agree, he is a rotation player at best in a mid table team. Trys hard but no consistent quality. Hence the fee we paid.

I posted that stat in the Iwobi thread a few weeks/month ago, when people were jizzing about how many assists Iwobi had. Basically saying he’d way overperformed in his assists for the quality of chances being created and no way he’d sustain that level of assists - even Gray has more expected assists.

And no, it isn’t a good rate.
