Does anyone else think that we brought in people like Maupay and McNeil because on the off chance we were relegated, they’d be players that would perhaps stick around whereas other players would kick up a fuss and want to go? The more I think about it the more it strikes me as a real possibility.

Get relegated (which comes with £105 million in allowed losses), have a fire sale, trust that being a “big club” with a new stadium will somehow be enough to be promoted … sounds like a gamble this lot are stupid enough to not only take but plan for.

No Mcneil was bought as a squad player because he was only 5m up front and Maupay was about seventh choice and because they prioritised "EPL experience" over what we needed. Both not good enough
