I still think that if the team is set up and coached correctly, there is no reason why we can't finish the season comfortably mid table.

It's not exciting but compared to where we are now, it's a massive improvement.

We are lucky that the bottom of the League is so tight and we've not been cut adrift.

But we have to find the coach to set this side up correctly.
We probably will be adrift once we lose to Arsenal and Liverpool though. With less players than what we started with and let’s be honest, what will be the wrong manager appointment (as usual). The things that all need to happen to make anything click just aren’t likely considering how we’re run and our finances.

If it was stronger we wouldn’t be 19th in the League
Probably is stronger but everyone around us has strengthened massively and better than us
Don't have Norwich, Watford and Burnley being dreadful this year to fall back on, Forest, Bournemouth and Fulham all actually have competent players this time compared to last seasons 3

So did we have all our eggs in the 'Danjuma basket' with nobody else lined up? It would fit the pattern I suppose, having no back up plans.
Yes you know the answer we are the slowest moving club in the EPL. That deal took weeks to get near to completion and Spurs, the player and his agent absolutely kneecapped us.

Who scores the goals?

We won’t get a new manager in until the transfer window is over.
And the club will give it the arl’ we didn’t have enough time to strengthen the squad.

Anyone thinking we’re going to sign the required players and get a manager in within 7 days is living in dreamland.
Manager on deadline day again is it lads.....

To be fair to maupay (can't believe I've just said that) but the position he was used at Brighton was totally different to the target man on his own that we tried to use him as. It's no wonder the 5ft 6in target man didn't work out. Having said that his all round play has been woeful to say the least.
Probably because he’s not a very good player unfortunately. The lack of actual quality is blatantly obvious

Sadly the recruitment continues to be our downfall

I would still like to see him given the chance of playing off a front man but unfortunately it would probably end on certain relegation

Still don't get why people are getting annoyed at no signings when we have no manager. Isn't one of our problems that the squad is made up of players signed by so many different people?

Oh you mean we had more players? But the quality was substandard.

And Kev, you’re not a high flying corporate manager, so please stop embarrassing yourself.
I managed more people than you’ve shared daft posts, however, even if I’d never managed a single person it’d still be blindingly obvious that a good manager get players to play better. Obvious to anyone with a brain that is……

Amazing how these things fall through and then nothing equivalent ever happens.

We absolutely we in for Diaz… but only had 1.7m to spend the following summer.

Makes complete sense.

Fans need to stop letting the board/club play them for suckers or they will deserve the relegation they get.
Well you've got that completely the wrong way around.

We spent £1.7m in the same summer. It was August 2021 that we went for Diaz and were trying to work a deal with Porto that was cash + James. It was all reliably reported at the time. Everton arranged a medical for him as he was with the Colombia national team.

During that same week Everton also bid £8m for Patterson and got rejected (who we then paid £12m for four months later). We also had a deal lined up for Livramento of a few mil, that Benitez vetoed. We also could have pushed for Dumfries but Benitez didn't want him. It would have taken a good chunk of our budget up, though.

Four months after the Diaz thing - in that time we'd got rid of James' wages, too - Everton spent a combined £30m on two FBs, without any guarantee of recouping the fee. It was only two weeks later that Digne was sold, and we were still £8m in the red on those deals. So that money came from somewhere.

Also, as we know, a lot is about what clubs are willing to accept downpayments. Wolves refused our drip feed for Morgan Gibbs-White even though we thought we could get it done. Burnley wanted most of Cornet's buy-out clause up front, but were willing to accept a few mil (supposedly around £4m) up front for McNeil. Lille accepted less than £10m up front for Onana.
