I have one or two threads closed down. When I have asked why, it wasn't the content of my post but the nature of the discussions under it, some I had no control over. Why should my post suffer because of other bad eggs. To me that is a wrong way of govern things. The individuals should be held accountable. Or else any thread can be shut down by one or two bad eggs.

Fair point - but we can't risk a libel case against the site.

Usually, we would remove the replies to the thread but doing so in your thread wouldn't have worked (we would have had to delete everything!) because all subsequent discussion concerned around the replies deemed libellous.
