Indeed, which version, the acoustic one or the one on Headhunters?
I like both tbh Headhunters is one of the great all time albums.
However the original is still my favourite and Takin Off must be the greatest debut album ever. ( well perhaps apart from the Kick Inside)

So, this happened Thursday night, and I figured I might as well post this up here.

Bill Prince (the composer of this work as well as the jazz clarinet soloist) is my hero and role model. He's in his eighties, going strong, and plays like the master he is. Kevin Clasen-Leblanc (the other clarinetist) is no slouch either. This is a treat to play and to listen to. Bill recorded this a couple of decades ago with Richard Stoltzman and the Warsaw Philharmonic - look up William Prince on your Spotify and you can find it - I did. Good stuff.

Wonderful melodic music, reminded me a bit of Malcolm Arnold in parts.

An impressive mix of classical and Jazz motifs.

Thanks for posting up.

How'd you clean your vinyl?
I bought one of those fairly cheap Spincare cleaners where you clamp and rotate the record. Wasn't quite getting good results so I diluted the solution about 1:5 with some distilled water in a spray bottle and then do the following....

Wipe any obvious dust / dirt off - Spray with the watered down solution - Go over with a microfibre and cleaning brush each direction - Put it in the spincare which only has distilled water in rather than solution - wipe off excess and allow to air dry.

Not perfect and nowhere near one of those mad £400 vacuum cleaners but has brought a few dogs back to life. The needle might have a bit of detritus on it the first play but after that I'm usually very pleased.

Bit free improv, but there are chords and things like that in there now and again to keep it somewhat anchored.

Some fab trumpet and sax.

I like it, at any rate.
