Jekyll and Hyde write up.

I watched the game on TV tonight, i wasnt their so i only have the sky view to judge from.

why jekyll and hyde? im happy with the performance and score BUT im also livid at parts of the performance.

first goal - sublime arteta cross, robinson might as well have been in barbados - lescott out foxed his marker, solid header. one - nil.

second goal - solid spurs pressure had eventually paid off, the lively malbranque putting a good cross in, lescott got sucked into marking the wrong man and gardner getting the easiest free header he will ever get in his career. 1 - 1.

third goal - having fought through the middle (?) the ball breaks to victor who shielded his defender and played a perfect ball to arteta first time, vic got on his bike to the back post where arteta tried to find him with a good cross, but (from wiki)

[the above is bollocks or im taller than gardener]

the ball breaks to leon osman whos first touch was genius matched only by a quick and sharp finish that gave england goalkeeper robinson no chance. 2 -1.

fourth goal - arteta (?) played a cute ball into vic who tried to parry it to another player but got caught late (was it zokora? - if it was it explains a lot that happened later in the game) free kick given eventually. arteta and stubbs line up, cars in the wall... stubbs runs, cars gives it the body check... someone throws a foot - deflection and in. robinson may as well have stayed in barbados, because he had no chance. 3 -1

dead on half time.

the above sounds great, all the good bits we managed with a spoonful and a half of good luck. look past the hibbert tackles, look past the yobo last ditch clearance, look past the lescott saving headers.

Spurs are a good side, and the ball wont run against them so much in future, the time and space given to jenas in and around the centre circle was the most worried ive been in a long time - time after time after time was the ball sprayed left and right to the flanks into space where a spurs player was running moving onto the ball and instantly put the everton defence under pressure.

i wonder what the stats are on spurs crosses.

i wonder if on another day berbatov and keane might have been more lucky, because too many times to count the short smart passes were just caught out, the flicks and dummies didnt quite make it. SPURS WONT BE SO UNLUCKY AGAIN.

second half was a bit of a trudge, spurs were behind, continued to try to play football but the ball didnt run for them and everytime yobo or carsley were the men to cut the ball out and clear.

i wonder what the stats are on the everton back line clearing straight to spurs possession.

spurs were unlucky to hit the post from a wicked cross met with a great header from berbatov, as spurs pushed they left gaps at the back and numerous times we almost capitalised, robinson made a couple of great saves not least from AJ late late on.

bossing the midfield was my foremost concern tonight.

im going to be kind to AJ and say its sharpness that made so many of his passes a bit crap, not least when he failed to play vic into all the space between earth and the sun. being fair aj did a massive amount right, tested robinson and was unlucky to score on the break late on, but a few tell tale passes were the ones that could have counted, so 'sharpness' it is.

I dont like to see such regular last ditch defending, (quick note, when spurs almost got a break first half, who was marking bent when he should have been right back?) the manner in which spurs bossed the midfield and the pressure we invited on ourselves is worrying.

3-1 is great, top of the league, and good goal difference. dont let the result and the points blind you to the glaring problems exposed tonight.

Rubbish, you need to start giving credit where its due.

Who are you to say that we have glaring problems when the manager who knows more about football than you do was delighted with the performance.

Get some positivity in you, you sound like a TW reporter!

i thought i called it fair, spurs passing was far superior to ours, we were more organised but how would we deal without yobo and lescott? (king and dawson missing - and they needed a defensive sub)

jenas had free roam in the middle and pushed the ball everywhere under no pressure and always had us on the back foot. DID NO ONE ELSE SEE THIS???

Not many teams below Spurs would attack Spurs at WHL. We defended well and did what most teams would do.

Try and be a bit more positive, [Poor language removed] we are top of the league, with 4 or 5 players missing.

i appreciate all that ghost.

please, you tell me, who did the passing tonight? which side made the dangerous runs most? which side had the most shots on goal? which side had the most corners?

im happy as a pig in [Poor language removed] that we won, but i cant overlook the fact that in large parts spurs showed us that football is about making the ball do the work.

Check the stats on Sky Sports, they didn't create many more chances than us, 1 or 2, and we had more shots on goal.

You will also probably find that most teams at home do more passing then the away team. The away team generally defend and attack on the counter attack, or try and get a goal from set pieces. You ask any football expert and they will say the same thing. Apart from the top 4 or 5 teams, that it is always going to be the case.

Spurs have spent alot more money then we have because they have more. Yet we went there, defended well like most teams will do at WHL and scored on the counter and from set pieces, so job done.

Really, what did you expect? Bizarre, absolutely bizarre.

what a place to aspire too.

Lets be honest suits, away from home at WHL I expected DM to play 4-5-1 and play 10 men behind the ball at all times. okay we played with roughly 8 men behind the ball at all times but thats the way Everton play we snuff out chances and try and pinch one at the other end.

We we're out played for about 30 minutes in the first half then after that Spurs started getting shitfaced and fouling Arteta all over the pitch. The tempo slowed down and I genuinely believe that Everton looked the better side in the second half due to spurs getting shitfaced about us taking our time with the game.

Although we didn't play great in the first half we certainly went about the job the right way away from home I would definitely not like to see us spraying the ball around the park like Spurs did with Neville and Carsley in the middle of the park. The ball would have to be picked out of the stands every 5 minutes.

Great game, Great tactics and a well deserved victory.

sounds like you agree with me. not that im drawing partitions or anything.

Suits. I agree in some ways in what you are saying/critisising. We did let them run things for periods of the game but I feel that is what Moyes wanted. Spures like to play it through the middle so pushing them out wide is the natural thing to do. It's good that you went to the trouble of wiki to find out the stats for Gardner against Anichebe nut it wasn't him that cleared the ball, it was the sub.(comical how he took out Robinson to clear the way for Osman). Moyes teams do invite teams on when they are ahead and this can be frustrating. I can see your point that we do need to improve but that is the difference between 4th and champs. Thouht tonight was a good result but that Spurs weren't really that good. Are you still my friend?
