Joel Robles

When? When I said the keeper wasn't solely responsible for every goal ever? Howard is crap. Saying that we gave up 15 goals in our first 11 games and that with Joel in we'd have only given up 2 is bordering on the most ridiculous thing I've read here.

Find me a quote where I said it wasn't important.

this is a direct quote 'the blatant overstating of his impact on the team', how could you possibly overstate the impact of in your own words the most important player in the team, I honestly don't know why you are hanging onto this, everyone knows he is is utter chobb, some go over the top, so what, we are all in agreement he is useless

It is a blatant overstatement to say that he was directly at fault for 13 of our first 15 goals against. How can you disagree with that? I guess I'd just expect a bit of respect of a long serving player. Same with Osman.

Yes, we all agree he's crap now. His impact on the team has been extremely negative this season in terms of results. 12 points is a lot, and I'd really like to know how accurate. People assume other keepers make no mistakes.

those who want respect, give respect, howard is an arrogant beaut who served his own bank balance and image, he's never been anything special and we 'made do' with him as our keeper far too long, he doesn't get kudos for longevity only performance, that lacks as much objectivity as anything his critics say

As soon as older players at the club start to decline, the abuse they get is over the top. I don't agree with it, and that's why I'll defend against over the top statements like 13 of the first 15 were his fault. There's not a keeper in history we could have plugged in which would have had us at 2 goals against in 11 league matches.

Regardless, this is the Joel thread, and I think he might be the answer, but I want to see more before we bin off looking for a replacement in the summer. Hopefully he's as good as some already think he is.

he's better than that clown howard, that's good enough for the rest of the season

I don't think you quite get the point, as far as I can tell, he's saying 13 out of 15 were Howard's fault, that's not to say we would have conceded just 2, its highlighting that they were avoidable if Howard hadn't made his mistakes.

For example, if a defender got his pass intercepted by a striker and the striker scored 13 times, out of 15 goals we had conceded all season, and we had him replaced with another defender, its not to say we wouldn't have conceded more than 2, its just if that specific player weren't in the team the mistakes would have been avoided for the most part.

I

I didn't say list the games, I said find the points. You're completely exaggerating which is always the problem when discussing Howard with a select few here. Some of those games you list we won...Also, we were 11 games into the season before we'd given up 15 league goals. You're honestly going to over exaggerate that much to say that with Joel in nets we would have given up 2 goals in our first 11 games? 2 goals? If you'd like to be objective and say Howard is crap, I'm on board. Howard is crap. But the blatant overstating of his impact on a team that's looked completely inadequate time and again when not attacking is ludacris.

Seriously, I'm not exaggerating. Those games he's cost us, the stats have been floated out after games as well to prove it.

One game I listed there we won, and we found ourselves 2-0 down thanks to his mistakes. Lied down as Berahino ran through and didn't command his box as usual for the second. Did a starjump too as the ball went underneath him:

Joel may not be answer but he is a hell of a lot better than Howard ATM.

I think Howard's time has come, but I need to see more from Robles before he is a shoe in. I was impressed with his distribution and reading of the game, but we did play Newcastle and he was relatively untested. Hopefully Martinez gives him a run to prove himself.

That's the real issue. I don't think anyone really believes Joel will be our long term #1, otherwise we should keep Howard as our #2.

I think he has the chance to be but he's going have to come on a good bit more in the next few months.

Howard will likely stay until the seasons end and then we'll move on from him. Martinez will bring another keeper in and judge the two.

My point is that Howard will get moved on, as Joel has little chance. I like him but long term #1? There would need to be a massive improvement.

Everyone hated Joel after his flappy display in cup quarter final against Arsenal the other year.. Shows how bad Howard has been tbh that everyone wants Joel in.
